August 2014 Photo Contest
August 2014 Photo Contest
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I was driving back to the Fairgrounds this morning it suddenly hit me; this months theme is MIXING HOBBIES or MIXING PASSIONS if you will. When we are cruising in our street rod I always point out any Airstreams we see along the way, conversely when we are pulling our AS I am always scanning the side roads and highways for street rods. My wife calls it mixing hobbies. Well at the street rod show this week, I did just that, I mixed my hobbies/passions. I pulled my AS down to the fairgrounds and used it to get out of the heat, cook lunches, BBQ at dinner and just do what we Airstreamers do.
So this month send in your pictures of your Airstream ALONG WITH your other passion, mix your passions. This could get interesting because it might be quilting, musical instruments, cooking, your pets, or what ever else floats your boat. Remember, the photo must include both hobbies/passions. Please include a brief description of what it is you are "mixing" with your AS, it may be too subtle for me to grasp at first glance.
I have kicked this off with a photo from this week's event.

Is that the sound of silence that comes with a lack of entries? All I can hear are crickets in the background. I know that I was late in kicking off this month's contest, and I only posted the theme about 24 hours ago, but not one entry yet. Thank goodness my car and AS got a complement or I wouldn't be sure if my posting actually got uploaded.
I know you are out there, and I know that this is a passionate, dedicated group so I will just sit back and wait patiently for the photos to start rolling in. You are out there aren't you?

That's the sound of a good/challenging theme for this month. For many the Airstream and its outing are the hobby/passion.
They will come.

I can only speak for myself...
A) I'm damn near speechless from the photo you posted. That car is stunning! I probably asked this before, but do you tow with that???
B) I can't get my grand piano anywhere near my Airstream.
C) I have a month to think of alternatives
I'll try later - I do every month usually :-)

These pictures aren't going to win any contests - but the week they represent immediately came to mind when reading the theme ....
I really enjoy woodworking - so taking along a few carving tools and a small project or two is an easy, no-brainer part of any Airstream trip.
This year add the opportunity created by my wife's annual "Sister's Week" scheduled at the same time as the opening week of the FIFA World Cup (1st game is about to be broadcast on the TV) and life seemed pretty good ..... heck ..... streaming, carving, global sports - what else is there?????

Then, there is the passion of collecting souvenir T shirts...
...and my wife's passion of "recycling" them.

Hi, This dog adopted us at age 13.5 after his parents [my parents] went to Heaven. This was his first real car ride [ever] while going to Alaska with us and it was for 50 days and more than 10,000 miles. Two pictures of Dusty / Boo-Boo in our Airstream.

My Caravel spents most of it's time at my hobby shop known as my hangar. It keeps company with my Cessna a vintage Serro Scotty trailer. My vintage van and Dart GT lives there also.

No but I am building a '37 Chevy Pickup that I WILL tow with.
B) I can't get my grand piano anywhere near my Airstream.
How about a miniature/model to represent???

nilesrob: I can't tell you this early in the contest how you're doing with points, but believe me, you certainly made a lot of points with your Mrs.!!!
hibby: let us know how the hunt went and how your pup performed.
splitrock: are those wild hawks, or are they yours (think falconry)?
tvketchum: Jasmine looks a little camera shy. t-shirts and quilting-you need to be buy more shirts to ensure your wife has enough material to work with.
robertsunrus: I have followed your "Travels" thread for some time and so I am not surprised to see Dusty/ Boo-Boo
acefly: nice compilation of hobbies all housed under one roof. That makes it easier to mix your hobbies when-ever you want.

The Dart GT is a 1963 slant 6 with a push button trans. It's for sale. I'm looking to buy another vintage car.
