Another example

This was a big rain storm that blew in at Canyon Ferry,a damm on the Missouri by Helena,Mt.There was a lot of wood in the river that ended up on the shore.Firewood for years.I was very thankful for our Airstream and very happy I wasn't in a tent.

Here you go. This was only a year after we gave up our tent.

True story.

Hi, after the Jackson Rancheria Rally, we decided to go to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monuments. Rally members said we were crazy to try to make it to South Dakota in October. They were right, but we were determined to go anyway. It was considered off season, but that is not a term used in a Southern Californian's vocabulary. To further confirm that we were doing something different, out of about 120 camping spaces at our campground, we were the only people there. Also this was our first time camping in freezing weather.

Love all the "snow" pictures, esp. since we're suppose to get up towards the 70's today!

Great pictures

These are great pictures. It makes you want to take the poor guys in a tent a cup of coffee and maybe help them get a fire going so they have some heat. Then as you walk back to your Airstream, with the heater going, your thinking"Wow.I'm sure glad I'm not in a tent."

Some of our best camping has been in the absolute worst weather .... in fact .... I'm gonna say that a LOT of our best camping has been in the worst weather!

..... but it's kinda tough to show a single picture from a foul weather trip without telling the whole story!

This particular weekend was our May 24th holiday weekend a couple of years ago - that weekend is traditionally the start of the Canadian camping season - but in Northern Ontario the weather can be a real throw of the dice in mid-May.

Our choice of campsites was our favourite spot in Dawson Trail Campground of Quetico Provincial Park. The first two days and nights of the weekend were miserable - a stiff, wet, snowy, cold wind right off the lake - about as raw and miserable as it gets - the kind that goes right through to your bones - but that was OK - the dining tent went up as shelter for the generator - then lots of cards and movies ..... and some serious bundling up to walk the dog.

The campground quickly became pretty much deserted except for us .....

..... and then Sunday afternoon the sun came out - still cool but the breeze had gone - a perfect day - the "kids" dropped by from town - we passed the afternoon around the fire - had a few beer ..... BBQ'd a ton of chicken wings - made a batch of world-famous potato salad - tossed the generator out of the dining tent .... and voila .....

..... instant memories ......

..... it just doesn't get any better ......

..... but then .....

..... it might have turned out differently if we had to sleep in a tent .....
