I'm sure Scott would like to see more. He's such a trouble maker sometimes.

I'm sure I wasn't there when it went from bad to worse. This trailer doesn't have a name and only has 5 lug nuts.

By the Serial Number 7628 it can be identified as an early 1954 22' Flying Cloud built in California. It also has tail lights that I believe were only used in early 1954, which is another clue, as are the side marker lights that were last used in early 1954. Is it another whale tail, which would mean it also has a sloped rear end? Or is the rear end vertical, like the 53's and earlier?

In any case, nice find, but another one needing a LOT of work!

sloped rear ?

Sorry about posting the same photos twice. I was tired and trying to get the photos out of an email and through photo shop. It became confusing, there were 34 to sort through. And about the rear end, I'll have to pay closer attention

Sloped Rear: From 1950 to early 1954, the rear panel on all flat end Airstreams was vertical which gave a "squared off" look from the side. In early 1954 they started making the rear panels slope outward from top to bottom, which gave a "fast bacK" appearance from the side that makes the trailer look like it is moving even when it is standing still. This sloped rear end continued thru 1968 until the body shape changed for 1969.

I believe California switched from the 13-panel rear end caps to the 9-panel whale tail end caps at the same time they switched from the vertical to sloped rear ends. This happened early in the 1954 model year.

What a nice interior NOT!

I sure hope the fire didn't hurt anybody. What ever exploded went up through the front vent and a second piece went through a front segment. The back 6 or 7 feet of the shell isn't attached to the floor. All the floor feels like you could step through it. I brought tires, Roger checked and packed the bearings. Because I wasn't able to trailer it, I attached the straps and hoped for the best. I had to tow it 90 miles and half of that had to be freeway.
Without Rogers help this wouldn't have been possible. He found the beast, talked the seller down to my price, and then made sure it got out of his yard

What a shop!

When I met Roger he showed me his 62 TW, and his 61 Bambi, it has a crushed in top, and then I saw the Caravel I work on gravel and crushed rock, so the concrete floor and the 4 point lift got all my attention. I can't tell you anything about the Caravel.

Trip Home

I had to stop at George, WA. to calm my nerves and get something to drink. Or was it the other way around This was the halfway point, the rest of the trip was to be freeway.Ten miles down the road I had to cross the Columbia River at Vantage and the wind can cause 18 wheelers problems.I about when I approached the bridge and saw the wind socks were full.I had two quick thoughts, would the straps keep it on the frame, and would it become a Flying Cloud and slam the railings? We made it across safely and the rest of the trip was just dealing with the 18 wheelers. The door was removed because it was only attached with baling wire.

Yup, definitely a slanted back. Congrats on the finds, though I think if I'd run across a deal like this I'd have turned right around and passed the savings onto somebody else.

Brad, I'll be glad to "pass" it your way. Someone will need what it has to offer.
