ok -- read the instructions on the seller's page (vintage trailers) and it says there is no need for adhesive... case closed, thanks :-)

2 '58 Clouds that are alike!
hi bevman -- figures - :-)
i noticed that too, and contacted you w question re stove.... it's kind of reassuring to see another Cloud that 's close to what we have, given that the factories took such liberties with throwing these together ...
on ebay there's a 24 foot 'flying cloud' -- major rebuild, and yet he believes he has a 24' cloud? who's mixed up, i wonder?

for the bed frame we used the existing front incl drawers. the top is divided into lids so we can access storage space; the luggage door will also access the space once we figure out how to unlock it... ;-)
the narrow door to the left of the fridge now opens up a small pantry. behind it, at the door, will be space for coats and shoes....
walls are painted....
unexpected news: the electrical wiring is functional !!! yippee!
next: order & install 14"vents; caulk roof in back (found gaps !!); glass for front window, and fix frame; bamboo floor, once the shell is waterproof.
this time order correct set of window operators ...... .....

flyfshr -- thanks again for posting the astrodome sketch - you are right, that should be do-able -- my question now: how does it sit on the roof or rather attach to the lower part.. we have no visuals to go by, all our vents are gone.... do you have a picture of your set-up?

Here's a couple of pictures showing how the lifter is mounted to the new dome. It's difficult to see but I used rivets with rivet washers through both of the Lexan pieces. I used the original hinge that came on the end of the lifter. The other picture shows how the lifter turn knob mounts to the lifter. Similar to a socket and ratchet. I know its difficult to visualize what these lifters look like with out having one in hand. Hope this helps.

september update
made a bed cover, pillows and curtains; more importantly, we installed 2 vents and bought 2 louvered Hehr windows for the street-side front. they are of course not airstream typical, but better than the wooden window we had in there. i actually like the louvered windows since they allow more air flow.
added vintage 50s table and chairs
also: worked on the door, but found that the insect screen we bought is too wimpy...
taking a break from the airstream to work on the 57 shasta.

Looks really nice. If the chair covers were turquoise with a boomerang pattern they'd be an exact match for my parent's set from the 50's.

I am new to the wonderful world of Aluminum but after 8+ years of wanting to restore an Airstream, I finally jumped in with both feet. I just picked up my 1958 Flying Cloud a couple weeks ago and will be selling most everything from the interior. If you need anything in particular let me know, the interior is all original. Not sure what works or not but let me know!
Oh ... and I know after following this forum for the last few years you guys will want pics, I will have them soon!
