My new 1957 Cloud
greetings everyone! i am about to become the new owner of a 57 flying cloud- 22 feet of dreams. it will need work- and a lot of it- but i am thrilled to have found this diamond in the rough to restore/refurbish for me and my kids and our big dog to enjoy. i am a solo mom to two girls and i am planning to use our summer vacations as well as other vacations to "do" the national parks and continue our love affair with the great pacific northwest - our home.
photos of my cloud can be seen at
1957 flying cloud
restoration work will start in october. i am planning to keep the original floor plan . will be looking for a fridge or icebox to install- anyone have one they want to part with?? and also am undecided about what to put up front since there is nothing now.

Hi Chris. Good luck with the cloud. I am 80% complete on a 74 Argosy. Just some outside details to do. In retrospect, I would make a list of what I want to have done, then do it in a systematic order. I pretty much did, although there was some plumbing I did after the fact that could have been easier. I have two leftover fridges, but don't think either works. They could be repaired, but I opted for new and no surprises! I did that on pretty much everything on the restore, many hours and many dollars later I am happy with the results. Main thing to remember: hit the road! As long as it is safe to tow, through the sleeping bags on the floor and drag an ice chest, get out and get camping!

Chris, could you send some more pics of the bed/bath area? I have a '58 Custom that has nothing in it and I am trying to figure out the floor plan.
Many thanks,

What a great find !! I know you will enjoy the restoration as much as using it, you have certainly come to the right place and community for support and information. Best of luck and please keep us posted on the progress with lots of pics !

update on the cloud
brian morrow, of brians vintage trailers in bonney lake washington has been hard at work on my restoration. he did an amazing job. the trailer was gutted and put back together. i am happy i went with the original floor plan and kept the feel of the trailer. from an as found on a farm diamond in the rough, i now have a sweet little cabin on wheels. the cloud is now home, sitting in my driveway and its my turn to get started on the cushions and curtains. here are a few outside photos. of note- i opted not to have the trailer completely shined. it was too intimidating for me and i like the partly shined look.

the cloud is now named "mabel" after the last owner of record at time of purchase- a 93 year old lady in idaho. we have been out on several camping trips this year. last weekend we went to crater lake, a great trip. next weekend we are off to central oregon again to la pine and the newberry crater area. i just love this airstream, making great memories with my kids.
