Just bought my first home/airstream 1958

Hello Fellow Airstreamers,
Being a fresh graduate from college looking for a home on wheels, I just picked up a 1958 22' Airstream that I believe is a Flying cloud. Got a great deal from the previous owner and am looking forward to the adventure that awaits ahead of me. I sure have a project ahead of me but it looks like there is abundent knowledge on the internet. I am looking to do alot of work to it both inside and out and would love any advice/suggestions. I am having a hard time determining what type of Airstream mine is exactly, it doesnt seem to look like others that I have seen photos of. Maybe you guys can tell what she is. Here are some photos. I am glade to be a new member of the forum and hope everyone has a great remainder of there weekend.

-Mike

Welcome, Wow that's really nice. I see some upgrades too! Do the appliances work? Does it roll okay? Ask anything you like, and use the "search" function to get answers too.

Good luck!

Steve

Welcome to the forums.

That's longer than a 22' - can you post the VIN# off the plate by the door? That will help us precisely identify what you have.

The rear end "whale tale" ended in late '56 or early '57.
The taillights are no longer original, and there's been some extensive "changes" made to your interior. If I was to make a semi-edumacated guess, I'd say it looks to be about a '55 or '56 Overlander. Leaning more towards a '55.

Hey Mike...Welcome to the forum and congratualtions on your new toy! Looks like a keeper! I'm sure others who know more about vintage trailers can help you ID it, but I can welcome you to the party! Pok around th subforms and try some buzz word searches and you'll find lots of info to help you along. If you don't find what you need, just ask...

1957 Ohio built trailers range from O-7359 to O-7499. (Letter O, not Zero) Your VIN shows you've got a 1957 Ohio built 26' Overlander - built towards the end of the year. Compare yours to others here:

57Overlander

Welcome to the forums. You will find all the answers here. Are you planning on living in your Airstream while you work on it? Or is this a project you can have on the side? I suggest being sure the floor is solid, the electrical redone (completely rewire is my suggestion!) then check the frame and axle tires and brakes. After that you can do the pretty stuff!

Have fun! Ask questions! Get answers.

Hey Mike,

Great find! I love those mid 50s trailers and as a Midwesterner I love the ones built in Ohio!

Please keep us posted on your plans/progress. If you ever need a hand or would just like to have someone longingly stare at your trailer, I'm not that far from you, give me a shout.

Welcome

Hi Mike, Nice find. I checked my WBCC Mem. Direc. and the old number does not apear to be in use. If you plan on joining WBCC, you might ask for that number. It worked for me. Enjoy your rebuild. Keep Smilin! LJH 6196

Mike,
I have a 58 flying Cloud and yours is semilar to mine. Your is longer.(26) Did you get a title with it? Is the vin number on the plate or on the tung, up front. Mine has three long numbers on the hitch area and I have to apply for a title. Maybe some of the guys can give me a scope on this. Like you trailer.

Mike,

Welcome to the group. I looks like you have a great find, and as a relative new Airstreamer myself, I can assure you that this is the right place for answers. You may also want to check out the WBCCI subgroup VAC (Vintage Airstream Club).

Hi Ron:

Congratulations on your new Overlander! The VIN is on the plate near the door; use that in applying for title.

In 6 weeks we are having a large vintage Airstream rally just "up river" from you in Salida. Detail are here:

2010 VAC Rally Information

Open house is Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., when many of us will have our vintage Airstreams open for viewing. We are glad to show you what we've done to our trailers and to answer your questions about features, restoration, upgrades, polishing, etc. You'll learn more in one afternoon by seeing trailers in person than from spending hours on the internet. We can also plug you in to local resources for restoration, refurbishment, supplies, etc. If it all possible, you should visit us.
