Another point I want to add to what Ryan said: We started our restore on the Traveler Jan 08 and finished it mid-May. We were dedicated to keep at it so that we could use it as much as we could during the summer before baby 2 arrived.

Though we haven't done much this week, once we start up on Friday it'll be noses to the grindstone so to speak.

Yes, I'm looking forward to watching your progress on this one. I find a lot of inspiration from seeing others tackle the same sorts of projects that I am.

Good luck, and I still have my fingers crosses that your Traveler will make its way back to you.

Smile And we have lift off!

We'll post more soon, but we wanted to let you all know that over the weekend Ryan with my brother and dad were able to get a ton done on the new rig. They removed all of the cabinets and appliances and water tank. They removed all of the inner skin, insulation, wiring, and plumbing. And as the finale Sunday night, got lift off of the shell from the frame.

We'll get photos and a blog post asap.

59 Flying Cloud Restoration

Woow, Congratulations on your find. Judging by the looks of your lost one, this one will be magnificent. I have been trying to fight my "Aluminum Fever" to get another trailer to do. I would like a couple more feet than my 20' Globetrotter has. I learned so much from my first one. I build in a wrap around booth, up front, that breaks down to a bed. It is wonderful. I also made the gaucho, across from kitchen, 54" wide. This has made a big difference, as two people don't have to spoon if they don't want to. All the best, Kenny

Now that we've completely torn it apart...

We can start to build it up!

Frame is clean and sandblasted. Now we're ordering grey and black tanks...

Will you be going with the leaf springs or torsion? How's the frame?

The leaf springs are at the steel recycler. We've got a torsion type axle on order. (Ryan knows the exact details.)

Ryan is planning on replacing one or two outriggers, if I remember right. He order material for that today. Overall, the frame looks good.

Wink Looking for a water filler cover...

I am looking for a water filler cover. A PO had removed the water filler and riveted a patch over the hole in the skin. Do you have one of these you'd be willing to part with? Or know someone who does?

Any help is appreciated,

Ryan.

To keep that vintage look you really need one of those. Wish I had one, I'd send it your way. Your restoration is progressing right along.

Ryan, I've got one on my Caravanner and I'm not planning to reuse it as I'm going to put the fresh tank in the frame. Got two caps, one with a faucet mounted on it and the other just the normal screw on fill cap.

PM me and I'll get it in the mail to ya.

cheers,
steve

Hey Ryan,
I got my Airstream polished by Jim over at the Hood. I'm very pleased with the work. He's nice, experienced and reasonable with his price.

Here is his email address - FlatHeadChief348@aol.com

Take Care,
Karen

Friday is for getting ready ...

...to work on the trailer. Ryan hasn't blogged in a bit, and has photos on his camera from last weekend... and I know there are a few of you curious about our progress.

Last weekend we were able to finish the belly pan and get the shell lowered back on to the frame. Its currently Kleeco'd in place and we're waiting for assistants to arrive on Saturday (aka my dad, davenpow, and brother, WilsonTami) so that the riveting can begin.

We're hoping to complete the riveting of frame to shell as well as replace the two shell pieces in front. Aluminum sheet is at the ready.

Here's a photo from last Sat night as we were lowering the shell.

Wish us luck!

Katie

Good luck Katie, I've been wondering how you all were doing. I love observing your work, so I've missed the updates the past couple of weeks.
