It's nice to see them try the Base Camp again with some real amenities. Thanks for the info.

I'm really liking this new design. I think they may have sacrificed some versatility with the rear door, but overall I think BaseCamp 2.0 is a home run.

I think it will be very appealing for their target market.

Thanks for the heads up.

Not sure (on my phone) if this is an old link, but it may be for the new model?

https://www.airstream.com/travel-trailers/basecamp/

Will poke around the site later when home.

PS the clean roof suggests the old model? The new one in the video has solar, a vent I think, and . . . ?

Maybe those are extra options?

That is the right link - I almost want one just because. It definitely looks good!

New 2017 Basecamp

Love it! At 16' 3" long and only 7' wide (same width as most motor vehicles), it is a nice small travel trailer that can be towed behind most vehicles using the vehicle's standard side mirrors; no floppy mirror extensions are necessary. At 3,500 lbs. GVWR and 2585 lbs. base weight with propane and batteries, it has a hefty 910 lbs of net carrying capacity. I like the fact it carries two 20 lb. steel propane tanks, which can be exchanged empty for full ones at many grocery stores. etc.

It has all the necessary functions (cooktop, fridge, toilet & shower, popup charging station, optional solar panels, etc.) for comfortably exploring the back country in a small efficient package. Airstream did an excellent job updating the the original Basecamp for today's lifestyle and customers. Kudos to Jackson Center!

I wonder what the overall height is without AC. Can it fit through a standard 8 foot high garage door?

Overall height with AC is 8 ft. In the photos the AC looks to be about 6-8 inches.

The AS website says it is 8' 6.25" high with AC and no specification without AC.

Interesting, viewing on an iPad the 6.25 appears to relate to the next stat.

On the Floor Plan page, the specs at the bottom indicate that the overall height with A/C is 8' 6.25" as posted earlier.

https://www.airstream.com/travel-tra...amp/floorplan/

The link to download the brochure does not work on the Mac laptop.

The second photo [see buttons under photo] on the top of the Design page shows the A/C, solar and vent very clearly:

https://www.airstream.com/travel-tra...secamp/design/

. . . although the specs linked above are not clear on whether these are options IMO (especially the solar).

On the home Overview page, next to bullet point E, it says "Large wheels and tires help tackle rougher terrain and cold-weather driving." Do those look like 15" or 16" wheels? Can't find the spec anywhere.

The Net Carrying Capacity of 915 lbs. seems pretty stout! But the water tank (22 gal) and combo waste tank (29) will eat up about 400 lbs if full (~50 x 8/gal).

Specs seem clear to me that AC and solar are options (solar pre-wire is standard though.)

The tires are "Goodyear® ST255/55R18 Tires, Balanced" (check the "Features" link, they're broken down in exterior, interior, etc.

If I find $35k burning a hole in my pocket this looks to be a very nice solo trailer... I've found that I end up traveling by myself about 2/3 of trips and it would be nice to have a vintage "family rig" and a new/warranted solo rig. Maybe I'll go buy a lotto ticket...

I really like the fact that Airstream is starting to bring some of their nice european toys to the US market, like the Truma combination water heater and furnace, a slick (though complex) little unit. It's also nice that they put in a 9200 BTU unit, even the crankiest spec-sheet won't tell you that powering it with something like the Yamaha EF2400ishc will cause the world to end. Since it appears that the only outside air sources are the doors and the Fantastic Fans that's important in a place like Texas, though the size and weight make this a "take me to Colorado!" trailer.

Hmm... it says "rear venting windows" so maybe the flat-ish windows aft of the door on the curbside, and aft of the bathroom on the street side, push out at the back edge like an old minivan?

I guess with the "visor" on that would let you have the curbside window open in the rain and have the FantasticFan open slightly (though I think the MaxxFan Deluxe design is better for all-weather use... sheesh! Haven't seen the first one in person and thinking about upgrades!)

So, since you've seen one in person: Do the side windows actually open a bit, perhaps tilting out at the aft edge? There's a somewhat-cryptic reference to that in the ad copy but I couldn't find a photo that shows any openings except the doors and the Fantastic Fans, and that little floor-level pass-through for the showerhead.

Rear windows

They do say "rear venting windows" on the brochure. I'm trying to remember... but they wouldn't let us take photos. I've emailed someone at the factory... will let you know what I find out.

Well that's a very cool little thing! the holding tanks are quite large too for some serious boondocking! And towable without a truck! And under 80K!

I also love the optional screen room attachments.

Great job AS!

Love it! This is what basecamp should have been from the beginning.
