What is that in front of the tire? Drain, stabilizer down? Very low! If that is is the sewer drain, wow!

Wow!

98% sure that is the drain and the storage tube just forward of it. [edit -- viewed on my 15" laptop with the attachment opened up -- pretty clear IMO]

Could they make it any lower?

Even a small boulder sticking up is going to do some damage as the boondocker tries to navigate into certain sites.

"No Pass" on BC2!

PS -- thanks for the links and image SilverGate.
PS2 -- Look under the streetside rear quarter -- there is that anti-tip protrusion sticking down, I thought I had seen, like a soft-bottomed "V". That is gonna get sheared off in no time IMO!
PS3 -- At least one photo in the slide show does not show any sewer drain, perhaps for the basic model with a Marine-type self-contained head? Or did they use progress photos which do not show the finished product? TBD!

Does Airstream ever do any consumer testing before releasing a trailer to the public? It seems that the too low sewer drain, etc. would have been identified and eliminated prior to production had they done so. Looking at it, it seems so obvious I'm surprised they let it out the door.

Saw one at the Hershey RV show today. Wish I had seen this about the drain to check it out. The back windows did look to be just vent windows, which is disappointing. Unfortunately, they did not have either tent.

It does seem quite nice.

Thanks for the link. The photo in the middle of the article shows the sewer dump quite clearly:

http://newatlas.com/airstream-baseca...=true#picture5

and it sure looks low . . .

From the article:

Airstream's CEO and president Bob Wheeler puts it like this:
. . .
"All you need to do is head out and decide whether to go right or left at the end of your driveway."

Just make sure you don't turn too sharp to the left as you leave the driveway, especially if the curbing at the street is fairly high.

But picture, I think 11, clearly shows a protective cover with 2 latches. It looks like it would be latched closed for travel.

Maybe, but then why show side views with it on the road with that bulky assortment hanging down? Also, where is the storage tube in the "clean" side view?

That clean side view is either a progress print of an incomplete Basecamp, or maybe a stripped down basic version without options. Let's look at the Specs page and see what is Standard and what is Optional.

Edit -- the features page says the China Toilet is standard FWIW.

https://www.airstream.com/travel-tra...camp/features/

Hopefully the dealers can chime in here.

PS2 -- SeaLevel, the hatch with two clasps ["protective cover"] is ALSO visible in the top photo which shows the bulky drain assembly hanging way down, so guessing the electrical shore power cord is inside that hatch? TBD.

PS3 -- In the clean side shot, there is no hint of the black/grey holding tank which is visible in many of the other shots from both sides IMO. I am increasingly thinking this side shot from the street side was taken during the design and prototype phase of this project, and may not be a final version. IMO

Dealers -- Please clarify the sewer drain questions being discussed, when you can. Photos with a tape measure showing ground clearance would be helpful. Does the entire bulky assemblage pivot up into the body, to be hidden behind that small door? Or is the "clean"'side photo of an incomplete trailer, a "progress print" if you will?

Please also detail the waste water holding tank location, and it's apparent absence from the "clean" side shot in which there is no sewer dump assembly hanging down in front of the street side tire.

Thanks,

Peter

It's probably a camera angle...

If it has a cassette toilet there would not be a normal black tank, only a tank probably serviced through outside.

The pictures from the west dealer showed a cassette toilet, maybe a regular one is an option. I'd go with the cassette if it helped ground clearance.

Is this the video where he mentions a porcelain toilet and tanks? If so, why did the pictures from the dealer out west show a cassette toilet?

Had a canned response from the local dealer from entering the information to download the brochure.

Will be interesting to see how long these initial units sit on the dealer lots.

Wondering if the demo models have arrived at any of the dealers yet?

No new videos on Colonial's YouTube site yet -- probably after the Hershey show next week?

Their FB video on the Basecamp works now from this page:

https://www.facebook.com/Colonial.Airstream/?fref=nf

but the sound is inconsistent here FWIW. [down the page a bit]

Thanks,

Peter
