With a correct set up (mine was done by Colonial Airstream in Lakewood, NJ) they work great!
Which weight distributing hitch did you use? Can you post some pictures of the installation on the trailer?

We tow with a Chevrolet Colorado; one of the joys of the BC is it doesn't require a full size pickup.

We don't use an anti-sway; never needed it and we live in New England and traveled cross country last year.

Tow Vehicle with Basecamp

2008 Ford Sport Trac here. Has a V6, 3.5 L engine with a newly installed Jasper transmission. Pulls great with sway bar and brake control. Pulls steep grades very well. Refrigerator just needed better ventilation. The LP casing blocked air circulation so we removed it, and cut an opening. We also took advantage of the recall where they added a second fan. Worked great since. Happy trails!

We have some 10,000 miles towing our Basecamp with a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6 V6 (6200 lb. tow capacity). Not a single tow issue and the Jeep drives as though the trailer is not there. Prodigy brake controller and no anti sway.

Our next trip (6,000 miles) will be with a 2018 Mercedes Metris Passenger (2WD) van with a 2.4 turbocharged 4 cylinder gas engine. It matches the Grand Cherokee in torque. It will use a Curt brake controller.

I believe the Colorado like our Canyon has anti-sway built in to the stability control. While we don't rely on that alone with our heavier 20' FC, I think it likely provides some safety margin with your TV.

Cayenne S as Tow Vehicle

We picked up our 2019 Basecamp this past week, and tow with a 2014 Porsche Cayenne S. Pulls like its not even there. I really don't need the mirror extenders I used with a utility trailer. I installed a Prodigy, but really don't think that is even needed except on the very steep hills.

Given that different states have very different expectations regarding trailer weights and the need for braking (and we are about to embarke upon our second cross country trip with the Basecamp), I installed a prodigy for our Jeep and use a Curt Echo for our Mercedes Metris Van.

2019 Highlander Tow Vehicle for Basecamp

Hi all. . . .here's a picture of our Highlander, with the Basecamp attached! We had a E2 hitch installed by our dealer to reduce sway and redistribute weight, and are going out in a week or so for our first adventure (to the local desert here near San Diego).
Thanks for all the support and advice!

Please post updates on the new Metris tow vehicle. We considered a Metris when they came out a few years ago, but opted for the Ford Transit van for its larger size and capacities. Keeping our eyes open for a Metris in the future. Do you think they will ever bring the high-roof Metris over to North America? That is what first grabbed our eye.

Have a great trip.

Thanks,

Peter

PS -- edit -- Maybe they don't make the high-roof Metris anymore in Europe? It was an exciting new van design about 5 years ago IMO. Can't find any links now.

There might well have been a tall roof version of the Vito in Europe, but for the time I have been researching the Metris and it’s Euro predecessor, I don’t recall seeing a tall version. Mercedes recently released a smaller Sprinter that might come with a tall roof.

I will keep you posted on its performance as a tow vehicle. So far, it does quite well.

Right you are . . . here is an old [2014] link for a Vito Dualiner which included a high roof version shown on PDF p. 6 and following:

http://tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cur...n-dualiner.pdf

Dimensions start on p. 32/44.

The high roof version looked like it might make a good tow vehicle for trailers like the Basecamp, especially with the taller interior headroom IMO. More fuel efficient than our Transit van by a long shot. Towing capacity 2000 kg, or ~4400 pounds.

Guess that high roof model did not catch on.

Please allow me to ask about your Sorento. I purchased a 16' sport and 2019 sorento, however, RV dealer is concerned the 2019 cannot handle a weight distribution hitch since they changed in 2018 to a unibody frame. Yours must still have the full frame construction. Do you have any thoughts?

Are unibody SUVs incompatible with weight distribution hitch systems?

Not at all, but they require appropriate hitches. If the manufacturer doesn’t offer such a hitch, some equate that as a comment on the vehicle itself and not just on the hitch.

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a full towing package. Jeep says that a weight distribution system is mandatory for trailers over 3500 pounds gross.

I'm assuming that it has an appropriate hitch and Jeep's blessing to use a standard WD system.

Weight Distribution Hitch

We have a 2019 Toyota Highlander that we're using with our Basecamp; all seems well so far. We are using the E2 hitch for weight distribution and anti-sway. I've attached a photo of the hitch in response to your question. . . .
