Seeking fiddly little part for BaseCamp

I'm a newbie to the forum, and have just bought a new BaseCamp (2008) from the Australian Importer. I'm seeking without joy, a burner cap for the Princess 1273 gas cooktop. It was missing when I took delivery of the unit, and I purchased the BaseCamp as-is ex-demo, thinking it would be easy to order and obtain the bit I need. Well it's easy enough to buy the $7.99 part, but the places that stock it (marine supply outfits) want US$50-$60 to put it in a padded envelope and send it to Australia. The manufacturer want an open credit card and will only send FedEx or UPS, and will bill me after it's been shipped. Er, no. Anybody on the forum (dealer maybe) that can help me out.

Cheers,

Rod

Do you have Pal Pal? I once sent shoes to a gal in England. Gotta love those Skeetchers!

I would think you could Pay Pal whoever orders your part and they can put it in the padded envelope at the post office and send it out to you.

Did you try calling Airstream? I would think they too could and would help you out?

Also Inland Andy of California is a very helpful dealer who supplies parts to many here on the forums.

Yes, I have Paypal and I ship and receive 20 or 30 consignments a day to and from the States, via USPS which is, believe it or not, one of the best postal systems on Earth. Airstream won't supply parts direct in contravention of their dealer agreements. The part number from Seaward (who make the cooktop) is 75422, and the description is "burner cap". If anyone can help. I'd be eternally grateful.

Cheers,

Rod

Your 2008 Basecamp should still be under the Airstream 2 year guarantee. Are you sure Airstream won't send you out the part free of charge. Have you called the factory?

Rod, can you post links to where anyone wanting to volunteer would find that part for purchase? And their handling charge to send within the states. I have been searching but have just given up.

Carol, I'm in Alexandra Hills, a bayside suburb of Brisbane. We have Koalas in our yard, and are one of very few residential areas in Australia that still do. Kangaroos are literally everywhere when you get out of built up areas. The site that stocks the bit is go2marine... Search Results

I did a little checking and even for a delivery within US it was approaching $30. I'm waiting to hear back from the manufacturers (Seaward Products), if they will send to US and at what price.

I can't get Inland to answer my emails, so it's getting a little silly to tell you the truth, I might just get the manufacturers to send it via FedEx and bite the bullet.

Thanks for your help.

When I bought my Basecamp I also thought it was missing the burner cap. Thinking about it, I had an idea - I got a coat hanger and flashlight and looked under the galley ... and there it was! It had bounced off during transportation and was just hiding. Now, when it's not in use I store it in the bin to the left of the burner.

So, take a look!

Thanks for that Rhyder, I definitely pulled to whole thing to it's component parts to find the little monster, but your stroy of success has urged me on to check again.

Cheers,

By under the galley, I meant on the floor beneath the galley. The cap is small, black, and slightly rounded, so look carefully.

Ahh...no luck, I've gone completely over the galley area, all the little crevices (and there are a number of them) and between the galley and the floor, to no avail. I'm madly seeking Airstream dealers that may hold the part, or alternatively, use the manufacturer to ship one via Fedex for about $100. Got me stuffed why organisations refuse to use post, when it's so reliable, cheap and trackable.......

Cheers,

Rod

ok, no luck locally. i called seaward. they told me the price is 10.00 with a $20.00 minimum plus shipping. they can't quote shipping costs until it is shipped (fedex) they also can't tell me if any dealer has this in stock.

i'm willing to get involved. if you need me, just send a PM.

you might try sending a PM to our member BOATDOC for some input.

Rodcam,

Pictures of the BC in the Outback?
I'm sure it would look good.
Check out my base camp mods thread for my recent photos of ocracoke NC!
I put my burner modulator in the pan with the top for travel.
Stow all the little stuff cause you will get bouncy even if you are on flattop!

Thanks to Carol (wheel interested) I have a burner cap on the way from US to Australia, the manufacturers supplied and posted free of charge to a US address, but wanted a blank signed credit card to send to Australia, go figure.....

Anyhow thanks to all those that offered help, I'll pay you all back by posting some really jealousy inspiring pics from down under.

Cheers,

Rod

No problem Rod, hope it gets there without delay. Thanks for posting pictures. I have not been fortunate enough to see a BaseCamp on the road or in camp but when I do I know I will act just like a groupie! I like the tent set-up as well. You've got a beautiful country to travel around. Enjoy and post more pictures and stories!!!
