https://www.consumeraffairs.com/amp/...rs-111419.html

I am not an engineer, but just putting in a shim to deal with the Dexter coupler issue seems to be a pretty simplistic retrofit. Not sure I would be happy with this fix. Glad I do not have a Dexter coupler.

Sounds like there's a little wiggle they want to tighten up.

Unless Dexter owns Demco, it ain't Dexter.

It's Demco.

Actually I suspect they are VERY concerned as a number of people on FB reporting they have received a personal phone call about it already. Airstream is send out a special hitch lock to them that is to be use to safely tow it to the dealer.

Why not able to fix until December my quess is that due to volume of trailers ( looks like most of the 2019 and 2020 models ) they do not yet have enough parts made to fix them tomorrow. We see that frequently on car recalls. Get at notice that your car has an issue that may kill you but sorry we will not have enough product available to fix it for a few months..... over the years I had two such recalls.

There is a big thread in the tow vehicle hitches subform.

A fellow from the hitch company is there answering questions etc. You all may want to drop in there and if you do. You will know what is happening from the hitch co. side and what their plans with Airstream are.

Found more details

I Googled it and came across this site with a date range of manufactured units:
http://www.arfc.org/rvs/airstream/gl...r/recalls.aspx

It shows April 24 - August 29, 2019. We visited the Jackson Center to see our Globetrotter on the line the first week in April. Hopefully the dates are accurate and we missed the recall.

You are absolutely correct. I would like to blame it on spell check, but...

Thumbs up Update as of 11/15

I just spoke with Airstream JC. Hitch manufacturer had two automated welding units. One was functioning perfect and the other was slightly out of tolerance specification about 50% of the time. These defective units (about 900) were installed on rigs manufactured the last two weeks of model year 2019 and 2020 rigs.

My experience tells me the Airstream has this under control and knows which rigs need recall work. Call AS at 877-596-6505 and have the last six numbers of your vin# ready to relay to the operator.

I consider them to be too uppity, compared to amateur nouns.

Northerngirl,
like had said in another thread I'm not sure where the Dec dates are coming from on the recall. That being said there is no waiting that long, AS will be shipping parts over the next few days to dealers to fix the issue.

I had mine checked on Tuesday. It checked out OK. My AS was manufactured in Aug 2019. The test is pretty straightforward: a gauge is placed in the coupler. If it fits, you have a problem. If not, you’re ok.

“If the gauge don’t fit, you must acquit.” Where did I hear that before?😂

Lots of boxes of Demco parts being worked through for shipping in the customer service area in the Service Department in Jackson Center. Buried Corey and the other guys.

Received my coupler lockout box today. Hardware is definitely heavy duty and the instructions look straightforward. Box included a letter from Airstream explaining situation.

I inquired about using an non-Airstream facility to inspect the hitch and was told it would be ok and to coordinate with AS Customer Service. I will need to pay for service visit and then be reimbursed by Airstream. Seems fair and reasonable to me.

Mistakes happen. I believe how companies respond to mistakes sets the good companies apart from the not-so-good. I’m pleased with how Demco and Airstream have responded to this mistake.

I got the email as well and am expecting my box with the lock. However, my AS was at the dealer a few weeks ago for other work and they checked the coupler then. I imagine they were informed ahead of time. My service confirmation details the verification and the fact the coupler is ok. I enquired with my dealer after receiving the notice from Airstream and they confirmed via email my coupler was fine and I did not need to have it checked again.

Attachment 356669

Does the hitch work normal with the new thing bolted on?
