basecamp spare tire

I'm looking for a way to mount a spare tire on the basecamp.

No easy way to do it... no room underneath... it would have to be on a modified hitch, or perhaps using a roof-mount. I bought an extra 20 inch wheel from Airstream when they were purging all traces of every having built Basecamps, but never mounted a wheel to it before I sold it...

Basecamp curiosity

I bought a used Basecamp and like it. I'm curious why Airstream stopped making them. Did they feel it was a bad product or was it the economy?

A bit of both... the original list price of <> $35K didn't go over well for a fairly feature-less carriage. Add in the economic downturn in 2008 where several Airstream dealers disappeared, and it just wasn't the right timing.

In the grand-pricing scheme, it wasn't far off a 16 foot... which was a far more useable design if you didn't need the cargo-door capacity of the Basecamp.

We had a love/hate relationship with ours... in the end we decided 'putting up with' a trailer wasn't a reason to own it... so we went to a traditional Airstream design... a used 22' CCD.
