I guess the best way for me to say it is... I didn't get any additional dings after it was installed, and I wish I had it before my trip on gravel... It worked great and if Airstream was still making the Basecamp they should have made this a factory option. It's not cheap, but it is very well put together.

Thanks everyone for all the input. We really like the Bow buddy but cost is a factor. We may just go with the Enkays.

As I mentioned in the original post, it is my Wife and kids going to Alaska. I will fly up to join them for a couple of weeks but they will be up there the entire summer. Leaving in two weeks and coming back in September. She did it in 2006 in a tent so she knows what she is in for. We are completely aware of the total number of miles going to be put on the vehicle and trailer, I just used 10k rough for up and back.

She is an adventurous soul... wish I was making the trip, too....

Think I like that on even better. Anybody have one or know how it stretches and collapses for turns?

You can also have the 3M clear bra custom installed.Any automotive installer in your area can do it.It is invisible and it works.

That'd work for the small stuff, but Alaska trips usually involve large stones being thrown at you as well. I don't think the clear bra will prevent the big dents.

dznf0g is correct. From personal experience I can verify that the clear bar will NOT protect from dings that well. A surprisingly small stone put a ding in my hood.
