Basecamp hacks

After years of schlepping heavy and inflexible clean water hoses around, I bought one of these.

It is light weight, collapses to easily store in a fraction of the space required for a conventional 25 ft. hose and generally makes my life better.

It fits in the shelf above the propane tanks along with the 120v cord with room to spare.

I’m surprised to hear that there are campgrounds that have utilities set up so as to require 50 feet of water hose for a 16.5 foot trailer.

It is certainly understandable in the case of large motorhomes where placement on a pad can be compromised or with a long trailer where one might need to fudge on where the trailer sits in order to accomodate parking for the tow vehicle.

We recently did 22 states and never came close to needing more than 25 feet for the water hose. In fact, I had it coiled in all but one campground and, in that one, I had 6-8 feet to space.

Fellow thinker/tinkerers, I found this today - I might price some interior panels shipped to my dealer to rework into other furniture... and the system diagrams add more understanding about my home!

They still don't have those hot water valves labeled, which one to have on and off for hot water. Page IV-6 in both parts book. The photo below, I, and others, added 'unlabeled valve' on those two valves.

Also, on page IV-10. Does anyone have that vacuum break w/spray nozzle behind their toilet in the bathroom??

Thanks for posting your finds. Water tank diagram would be helpful too. The Bose speaker is listed as a part... I didn't get one mtc!

My shower door developed a wicked bow - might replace. In the meantime, I put handles on inside so I can pull shut and engage turn - buttons for door tight against gasket. Works for now... Not sure it'll last. I am liking the oxygenics head more and more btw.

I have wondered about that potential. Even considered attaching a vertical stiffener inside near the latch.

My shower door also is warped. Cannot close tight from the inside. I am going to ask dealer to replace it. Obviously another design flaw with the basecamps

Mine is too but I simply turn the two latches at the top and bottom of the door and that does the trick. No leaks!

One small hole in the CS top corner of the case, thread through 1/8" nylon cord w/knot on end and a little fussing with a loop at the right length to go around the bungie base - works well and retracts inside cover when traveling, only loop exposed.

That looks like a great idea. One of the things that makes me bonkers is not being able to handle the propane cover with both hands.

Hello AS Basecampers:

I needed extra storage space in the Basecamp so I am presenting an idea to the forum that may work for you.

We needed extra storage so I 'hacked' together kayak (marine) suction cups and mountain climbing chalk bags. The suction cup and chalk bag can be purchased at Amazon.com or REI or other.

Please see pictures.

This setup works great, they hold glasses of water, eyeglasses, flashlights, etc, etc. We have six of them. They can be easily positioned in the cabin or even on the exterior of the Basecamp (Great for beer cans/bottles). They do not work on the formica walls. I have not had problem with them slipping off. I do ensure the surface is clean before positioning.

I added handles to the inside of my bathroom door today too.

I added this strap to my exit door to prevent it from flying back in strong wind and breaking the front window. I believe 4 folks have had that happen. I am rather short, so this is not in my way when I get in or out. I used a horse tie-down strap from the feed store. It had a bit of bungee cord at one end.

Added runners to drawer - works just like home! Made a new drawer with thicker bottom to accept screws and dividers for my specific implements. Wanted this since day one. 22" guides juuust work. You can juuust reach to screw them down in the back, beyond the recess where the original tray sat.
