Anyone successfully changed to a compressor fridge?

Last fridge fix (this makes 5, I think including one trip to Jackson Center) did not work for 90 degree heat.

Wondering if anyone has gone with a compressor.

I don't have a full fridge. Mine is Indel-B 31, sold by Truck Fridge. It runs on 12 volts DC and doesn't even put a dent in 300 watts of solar. I recommend a 12 volt compressor fridge. Truck Fridge has many sizes.

Talking Engel Compressor Fridge

Hello, RocIngersol here, just adding my Engel compressor refrigerator from the Refrigerator performance thread....

Again, using Engel 40 Quart Fridge/Freezer Combi Unit along with Black Forest Cargo slide.

Enjoy,

Sorry to hear that the last "fix" did not work for your Basecamp fridge, Bborzell!

FYI here are some "compressor fridge" search results using the new blue search box above:

https://www.google.com/search?q=comp...=airforums.com

Good luck,

Peter

PS -- Will you be adding a comment to your Simple Survey thread about this? The recent posts do not show any clear "winners" -- in terms of Basecamp fridges coming back "fixed" for hot weather use IMO. Thank you for the thorough job you did documenting the BC fridge's performance in hot weather and direct sun. Hopefully Airstream will do something about this.

Are you only directing your question to Basecamp owners, because of the specific issues/configuration?

Yes, I will be updating as soon as I get a better idea as to how close the fix got to the target of 40 degrees.

As it turns out, the solar controller replacement under warranty didn’t work. I don’t want to bring it back for the solar issue until I get a better sense of what other options Airstream will consider for getting the fridge thing fixed for good.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for all the details on this. I was thinking of putting the slides closer to (or on) the floor so that when you slide it out it can double as a seat. - Mike

Hi R, I have the MT35 Platinum. Wondering about the Black Forest Cargo slide you have. The cargo slide I looked at Black Forest doesn't look big enough. Its 23.5" interior well length and the fridge is 25.5 long. I have sent them a question but wonder what you used and how you attached the Engel to the slider?
Thanks.

Howdy RocIngersol, This looks like a great solutions. I was wondering if something like this would work. Thanks for posting the photos.

12/120 Volt Compressor Fridge

I believe the newest Basecamp has the option to switch to the compressor based refrigerator. Perhaps, AS can provide a swap out path?
