2018 BaseCamp
I love the BC, however after reading all the problems with the 2017 which scared me to death. I've been looking at many dealers sites and now have come across 2018 BC. I wonder if all the water, axel and so on problems have been fixed? Anybody know?
Thanks for the info.

Good point. I figured to wait until the '18s came out to buy. But if they are out already maybe I should wait for the '19s ...

As bad as it seemed, it looks like they are doing the right thing in the way they are fixing them, it sucks but they are making them right. The problem there's nothing on the market like it. I'm looking to go on 4 or 5 month overland trips. I researched everything from Tab outback to a 30' 5th wheel. I have it down to 3 options:
1. Is a 2016 AEV Jeep Rubicon with a 5.7 Hemi and A TAB Outback Be able to see all National Parks
2. Is a 2016 Ford F 250 Black Ops 6.7 Diesel and 30' 5th Wheel be able to about 80% of all National Parks
3. 2017 Toyota Tundra Platinum and Base Camp be able to see all National Parks
All have their good and bad points.
Has anyone purchased 2018 BC?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the reference to Little Guy trailers:
http://golittleguy.com/
Unless Airstream makes a public statement about the ways in which the 2018 Basecamp has been improved/redesigned, IMO it is premature to buy one.
This BC roll-out has been an absolute travesty, and a class action lawsuit would not surprise at all IMO.
PS -- Interesting that Little Guy is picking up the Parkliner line apparently. We looked at one a couple of years ago before getting the FC20:

Im assuming this is a joke. You are debating between a Basecamp or Tab, somewhat in the same realm, or a 30' 5th wheel? You do have the trim levels nailed down for the possible tow vehicles.

And why would you think it's a joke, three viable ways to go on a four or five month-long overland trips. I guess the only question is how comfortable do I want to be.

I agree, been looking at "fivers" for long term "snowbirding" and class "B" RVs to pull a trailered motorcycle, currently have a Lance slide-on that we use when taking our motorcycle with us... Our AS fits it's purpose, but is not ideal for all camping styles... Will never give it up though!!

Does this recall affect previous model Basecamps?
No, this only affects Basecamps manufactured from September 8, 2016 to March 9, 2017.

Why are you worried about how many National Parks you fit in? I thought as of today we were getting rid of them all, now it's just a matter of which mining or drilling operation you want to see or work at.

Skip the Little Guy. Had one last year for 3 weeks and it is too small!
The big rigs (over 25') are not allowed in the NP camping areas or in very few. Be glad they not allowed. It would simply ruin most facilities.
I have had 4 Sprinter class B's and an Airstream Eddie Bauer. Liked the Sprinters but service is terrible and expensive.
I purchased a 2017 Honda Ridgeline last year and this truck is made for a Basecamp. When the new bugs are worked out, I bet the deals are going to be fantastic to get us interested again.

I have decided on 2017 Tundra for TV and the BC. I believe this will work great for me, hey maybe I'll full-time in it for a year! We'll see!
PS I thought about the R-Pod as well, just did't seem to have the versatility that the BC has.
To excited!!

Not far from our set up... 2015 tundra it tows great and looks great. We managed 7 trips out in our base camp before dry dock and miss it every weekend. Hope to get it back soon new and improved. We did not have the leaking issues or the door lock issues. They are replacing the freshwater tank, fixed the black/grey sensor, and of course the axle still to come . It is a super fun camper and I really hope they work out all of these bugs. Ours went in 3-24 hope to have it back in a few weeks to carry on. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, I love the new Tundra, never thought I'd own a truck.
From what I've read seems like the majority of the issues are being resolved. I spoke with a dealer a few days ago and they told me the water tank and axel issues were resolved on all BC's produced after 3/2017, that just leaves about 5 or 6 leaking, sticking and other problems.
Gail seems to have a handle on things. It's been a great help to me reading all posts.
I can't wait to get my BC and hit the road!

I Trae and Ann have you had any problems with your Tundra electronic brake controller? I've been reading the 2015 16 and 17's have had massive problems with their electronic brake controller.

We installed a Curt brand brake controller a year ago and have had no problem or issues. We towed our previous trailer that was about 4500 lbs and it worked great with both.

Hi all, I spent 2 1/2 hours at my local dealer here in Florida crawled up and down inside and out on the top through the bottom of four different base camps they had in stock. I found so many quality control issues. I get that they weren't PDI however I was shocked to see what comes off the assembly line. I spoke with the salesman in depth on the base camp and even spoke with one of the engineers or original designers he seemed a little angry that I did so much research and knew about so many problems at the base camps. I'm still not convinced that the axle recall is going to be satisfactory. I don't like the look of the smaller tire and the way it sits in the wheel well. I wonder how serious airstream is when it comes to forums like this because I will not be purchasing one anytime soon. This saddens me because I really love the look and the feel that the base camp has.
