I was at the local Airstream dealership today getting my AC looked at (trashed compressor). They had one Basecamp in the bay getting a new axle installed. Mechanic said they were waiting on 3 more to arrive. He also said stand by for more recalls. He would not be more specific. Overall he seemed pretty disgusted with the whole Basecamp fiasco.

We have delivered 3 Basecamps so far and they have all done well no leaks or issues reported. We gave all three very thorough PDI's. Biggest problem reported so far is too many people asking to see inside.

Starting week number 5 without my basecamp due to axle recall. It would be so much better if they would just be proactive and call me with updates instead of me having to call them. Hoping they fix leaking water tank, bad rear door leak and refrigerator vent leak. Holy crap...you would think Chrysler built this thing!!

I've had great luck with Chrysler products, much better than gm or ford.

Hi forddealer,

We're sorry to learn about the delay in getting the Airstream Basecamp back in your hands. Can you please send a private message with your VIN, email address, name and best number to contact you so we can look into this?

Here is my VIN: 1SMG4DC18HJ203056. I am less concerned about the axle replacement than I am about the rear door water leak. It is significant. There was also a rivet missing on an inside wall, leak at refrigerator vent and the leaking water valve. My most recent conversation about the delay revealed a delayed part on the water system. I was seriously thinking about trading up to a flying cloud, but when I heard the offer for my basecamp that had never even been used, I decided that was a non starter. The folks at Chilhowee RV have been nothing but nice, especially my salesperson, but this ihas gone on too long

I took my Basecamp down to the dealer this week for the axle recall. They claim they have not seen the service bulletin on the refrigerator. I emailed it to them. I washed it before I took it and saw no leaks. Even got on a ladder to wash the top and solar panels. I realize that's not the same as driving in hard rain :-) I also have that crimped copper hose I want replaced.

Gail...

Do you have details on the fridge issue? Ours works on AC but can only get down to 60 on propane. Thanks.

I don't Bob. I did remember that when I was at the dealer talking about the refrigerator service bulletin, one of the guys said they had a camper in for service on the refrigerator, not a Basecamp, but still an Airstream and the LP wasn't even hooked up to the refrigerator. If yours is cooling to 60, that might not be the problem.

Beginning week 6 with no base camp. Still in the shop for recall among other things. I hope it's done this week.

I got my Basecamp home yesterday after getting the axle replaced. I actually think it took a little bit of weight off the tongue, as it did not seem so heavy on the rear of my SUV bringing it home. Alas ... I seem to have the same refrigerator problems as other. I asked that they check the refrigerator on propane. I discussed this on the issues thread. I believe mine does not cool adequately on propane. Freezer works, but the refrigerator part does not cool adequately. I'm buying thermometers today.

Pretty sure we are all in the same boat on the fridge situation. I posted results of my experiment - temp in main part of fridge does not cool below mid 50s when ambient temp is in 80s but freezer stays frozen. I'm considering taking freezer door off to cool rest of fridge as temp fix at least. Not so sure it's a venting problem - the little metal cooling fins in main fridge just don't seem capable of doing the job.

So, do we complain to Airstream or Dometic?? I assume we all need to complain or AS won't do anything about it. I bought thermometers today but didn't work on it as had some other things going on ... will try tomorrow and record temps like you did.

Mine is going to tne dealer tomorrow. I'll be looking for both the additional fan as well as insulation for the box. Will also get the small vent on the belly pan reset.

I'll report back after we pick it up.
