Maiden Voyage

Took our new Bambi over Donner Summit to Lake Washoe rally for its maiden voyage/shakedown. '07 Tacoma towed well. (12 & 14 mpg towing over mtns) Warm welcome echoed greetings on Forum. The As community is a huge bonus we didn't expect. We love our trailer and the quality of AS const', except for cheap mattress and squeaky floor, and we'll fix that. Made a fold-up shelf/night stand, trash receptacle, and added a second towel bar in the dry bath. Sure there'll be more mods. Looking forward to a solo week in the desert and then the Casini rally. Mostly, thanks for allowing our inclusion to 'Streaming.

Welcome, Clintn, from a fellow Northern Californian. Look forward to seeing you sometime down the road.

Replacing mattress

I replaced my mattress, but one thing I didn't count on was the increased weight of a really good innerspring mattress. Rasslin' a 100 lb mattress when making a bed in a small Airstream isn't fun. Some people have gone with a sleep number bed, or a lighter foam bed (you can't go 12" thick with foam and not have it weigh a ton). Use the "search" function here because there are a couple of threads about sandwiching layers of different types of foam to get a good combination of lower weight & increased comfort.

Believe it or not, their mattresses have improved in the past few years.

You mean you came home after your first trip out? Whenever we go out, and it is a lot these days, I sit ourside of our AS the last night next to a campfire with a great glass of wine in my hand and Sandi by my side and think real hard about what I can do to just keep on going. As soon as I figure it out I will share with everyone so we can all be on the road togther all the time.

3" memory foam toppers worked wonders for our gouchos.
