Those old Tundras hold up really well, but it looks like I can get more truck for the money going for a newer Tacoma than an older Tundra. Thanks again for all the great info.
You'll be happy with your new 07 Tacoma...that's what we have...double cab short bed TRD automatic (not 4WD)...6500 lb towing...we tow our '06 19' Bambi with it and we have been very pleased with its performance. Looks great with the AS, too. Ours is "Impusle Red" and looks great pulling the silver dream. We gets all sorts of nice comments on our "rig"...

Ease on down the road...

TBRich,

What kind of MPG are you getting with your Tacoma? I have a 16ft Bambi and pulling with 1/2 ton chevy and was curious if I could go smaller and improved the mileage (currently 10mpg).

We get 12-13 mpg usually, depending on conditions...

I just got 11+ towing a 29' A/S to Missouri last week with a GMC 4.8 1/2 ton. Most of the towing was at 65 - 75 MPH.
I only bring it up because you may be able to improve what you get now with your truck. I would think that your truck would get better, towing a 16 footer.

Ok, sounds like a good choice. Now we wanna see photos!

Hey Roger, no problem, the shakedown cruise should be first week of april, so I promise to take photos. there will probably be a few of me standing around the dumping station in a football helmet and hipwaders looking confused. I'm hoping to take my girlfriend on a trip this August up to the lakes, Mich/Canada, to visit friends. Good to know what mpg to expect as well, really looking forward to this Tacoma. Anyone know the steps to get registration and plates for the Bambi? Seems like it works just like any other car or trailer. Can't wait to stand in line at the DMV title and registration office, always a good time.

Cool! Now if you really want to introduce your girlfriend to camping, you should let her stand around the dump station with the helmet and waders... now THAT would be photo-worthy!

Registering the trailer should be no different that the normal DMV drill for you.

Another Boulder Bambi

Hey UncleMax,

Sounds like you and I are coming on board about the same time with the same issues and questions. I too have recently been trying to find a TV to tow a 16' Bambi QuikSilver (3500 lb GVWR). My top two choices were the Tacoma (6500 lb rating) and the Nissan Frontier (6100 lb rating). I ended up going with an '06 Crew Cab Frontier only because I got a better deal on it.

Two days ago I purchased the Bambi and towed it back to Boulder (yeah, we have that in common too) from Albuquerque over Raton Pass in S. Colorado. The Frontier did well, and I got a little over 12 mpg. Still need to test it out in the weeks to come on some higher passes (Eisenhower, Berthoud, Trailridge), but I am cautiously hopeful the Frontier will safely be up to the challenge.

Just curious - have you found a good storage place yet, or are you keeping it on your property? I'm found a storage site on Araphoe Rd. that I plan to "move into" this weekend.

Best of luck with your Bambi!

I'm towing my new Bambi 16 Ocean Breeze with my silver '05 Tacoma and it looks great. I just figured out that my "shake-down" trip will be about 4400 miles . I'll be halfway there tomorrow .

Hey Tim, so great to know another 16' Bambi owner in Boulder. Sounds like the Frontier is working well for you as a tow vehicle, i have a buddy with a crew cab like yours and he really loves it. i got a good deal on the Tacoma, so im hoping it will do well, better than my old clunker of a truck anyway. Let me now how it goes on those high passes!
Ive been trying to research storage places, someone sent me to Arapahoe Self Storage, but i haven't checked it out yet. I will be picking up my rig first week in April, but i'd love to locate a good storage place soon, so i'd be interested to hear how the move-in went for you.
and thanks for the video, its freakin hysterical!
take it easy,
Max

Looks like you are now using a Toyota FJ for towing your trailer after pulling it with a Tacoma for awhile. Can you share how the FJ is working as a tow vehicle. Would you consider towing a 20 with the V6 or V8 FJ?

Thanks.

We average 14-16 with the Ridgeline and have no problems in the high country.

Hey DugsLife,
I'm not sure who on this thread is towing with the FJ Cruiser. I am happy with the V6 Tacoma I got, its pulling my 16' 2007 Bambi CCD with an Equil-i-zer Hitch like a dream, I barely know Im towing at all. But the guy I bought the Bambi from used an FJ Cruiser, and he said it pulled just fine. For a 20' I'd definitely go up to the V8.
best,
UncleMax
