Axles....great fit !

Thanks to Colin Hyde, I am starting out with new axles, drums, brakes, bearings, etc.

The axles fit like a glove ! Thank you Colin !

Project was on one hand fairly easy in that there were only 8 bolts involved but also difficult because the old bolts had to be cut off. (I have a torch)Installing the new ones was fairly easy, once they were dragged under the trailer thru Florida sand & shell. It was a matter of jacking into place & installing the bolts. One other minor problem was the supplied lock nuts were impossible to install by me ...couldn't get enough leverage while lying on the ground. Changed them to standard nuts with a standard lock washer and then had a neighbor weld the nut to the bolt. Also, its important to face the bolts that go behind the shocks IN so there is clearance for the shocks. (Found this out the hard way.) I do not think this job is for everyone, as it required some brute strength (friends) and some heavy duty tools. I am pleased with the final outcome !

The square holes have NOTHING to with alignment.

They simply provide a place for the square shaft.

You make it sound harder than it should be - I'm 72 years old and did it by myself using two small furniture dollys and two small floor jacks from harbor freight. I used Blaster two days before on the nuts and they came right off. It took three hours for the first one and two for the second one - (you have to put the shock on the axle before you put it up in place - learning curve).

The hard part was dragging the axles thru sand & shell...as they were dragged, they dug in deeper etc. (could not use a dolly because it too dug in.
