White roof coating ?

I'm renovating a 1972 overlander , it has some sort of white roof coating my problem is one of the PO put it on too far down the side and it shows way to much and some spots are starting to flake off
How do I remove this stuff ? And what product do I use to recoat it ? Does someone here have a favorite product they have used with success in the past ? I need some help here !

Sounds like you have some elastomeric paint. Good stuff to reduce summer temps and seal the roof.

Here is what I would you do...

Get a couple of small bottles of various strippers. Get in the top center of the roof and try a few spots ti see what works. If it doesn't work, the mess will be hidden.

There are so many different types of coatings its tough to give a one-stop answer.

Mine leaves white strips down my trailer every time it rains. They wipe off easily but a bit annoying. So watching this for suggestions.

Is yours the factory coating? It's something I want to do, but don't want any more chalking than "necessary".

I've read that some wax white roof coatings. But no info as to what brand, etc.

I believe it is. Have also read about the wax trick.

I have been using automotive wax on my factory/white roof every 6-8 months for 18 years. Early on, I always wondered if it was worth the effort. But it looks great, and no white streaks.

Here on the forum I've seen mention of a white coating used on school busses. Perhaps, if yo can locate a school bus yard in your area they could point you in a direction to consider. Another suggestion would be to check with Airstream and see what their factory coating is. So far mine is in good condition and not chalking so it's something that I'm not in the market for. YET

Good luck,

AWC.....I had the same problem with my 2007 25' until I started waxing the roof with Wabernize One Step RV Super Seal twice a year. No more white streaks coming down the roof where the water runs off. Just make sure you let anyone working on the roof of your trailer know that you waxed the roof and it may be slippery.

What is the roof coating and how old? On my Ceramiflex chalking stopped after a few years.

Ceramiflex no longer sells their product for use on metal roofs. I have begged, pleaded with the manufacturer... no interest.

So, my next choice is to find a high quality AVIATION paint....at least to see if they will sell to me... and price...
