Tell Me I'm Crazy?

Having seen some of the total restorations on this board I have this crazy desire to go to an RV salvage yard and get a good front cap and a good rear cap (or maybe two rear caps as they seem to get damaged less) of a wrecked long Airstream and fabricate a home made Bambi by filling in the middle. Your thoughts?

Look for an old boat trailer to use for a frame.

You can pick up a big 30 footer cheap anytime you want one, then just cut it down!

Lightbulb HEY Another 'outside the box' Guy!!!!!!!

I LOVE IT
I have kinda been the guy that upsets these restoreation guys on this sight and I think that your idea is way cool.
After rippin one of these babies allllll the way apart to renovate it I am here to tell you that the regular guy how cares about what they are doing will do alot better job of construction than the guys that get paid 6.00 an hour to asssemble them in the plant.
If you have any ? send me a private mess and I will do what I can to help you out. John

The totaled Airstream with good endcaps is a rare bird indeed. In almost any accident the caps take a terrific torqueing. Generally both front and rear caps have significant damage, although I have seen a couple of good rear caps. The suggestion to cut down a larger coach probably is the best option.

I have been looking for a single lower front corner panel - not an entire cap, just the one panel - for three years now and have yet to find one that is not in worse shape than my own.

We're not NUTS!!....Just carriers It might be a lot cheaper to find a unit in the size range you're looking for and then do what you want to do...or what has to be done.... Don't worry, you'll soon be seperated from lots of your hard earned $$$'s... and you'll love every minute!

We do not have to tell you that you are crazy, there will be enough other people to do that for us.

I bought an Airstream Logo on Ebay for $5.00 and built the Airstream to go with it. It was a real money saver but the labor was intense!
You would do better to buy the Airstream Trailer that's on the Atlanta Craig's List. It needs a lot , but not everything.
