Oxidation

We have owned a 1994 30 Classic since 2003. It is in covered storage and the previous owners also stored it indoors.

The exterior is in very nice condition, except it is getting chalky white oxidation around the curvature of the top and on one side.

What is the best way to cure this.

Chalky white '96

I have been reading endlessly about failing clear coats and most of the posts describe a "Flaking and peeling" process affectionately called balding. The majority of these restoration posts also seem to reference "Vintage" trailers of the 60's and 70's. My '96 Excela has some clear areas mostly on the front and back rounded portions but on one side it has large areas that are a streaky white. Is this a clear coat condition that can be addressed by stripping or is it something else? It looks kinda like someone tried some chemical on it and it turned it white or else its sunburned?

The Plasticoat is deteriorating.

You can strip the end pieces (they always fail first) and sort of polish with aluminum polish which will buy you some time but, pretty soon the upper portions of the sides will start to go. Then it's time to strip and re-plasticoat.

That expensive proposition is in my immediate future...

Well, it took a minute to download the picture you posted and, yeah, your plasti coat is totally shot.

Look for videos on stripping and adding a new clear coat finish. There is a good one that shows how to strip, what stripper to purchase, when to do the work and how to clean up. That is most of the work, shooting a new clear coat finish is the easy part.

It takes two people two days to do the job.

Thanks for all the responses very helpful. Will have to think awhile about how I want to tackle this, need to improve my storage / work environment situation before I start anything. Well at least I know I’m not going to be bored in retirement, buying an AS certainly a life altering decision.
