Olympic Rivets, what size(s) are needed?

Greetings,

Our 65 TW is undergoing the start of its repairs. New Jack and Black Tank. Today I ordered rivets, from State Wire & Terminal in bulk for the best price, in the size requested by the repair business. SW&T does not carry Olympic so tomorrow I will try LA Fasteners, Byler and Bolt Products. The question is which size/sizes of Olympics will I mostly need for the exterior. Based on my reading I think the answer it 5/32 but there are many of those to choose from. And different holes may need different sizes. I am trying to order bulk in the most common sizes we will need.

Thanks in advance Hittenstiehl

I'm pretty sure Olympic is a brand name of rivet with some patents that may or may not be active. In any case, you have a Fastenal store in Gilbert that will stock all the rivets you need, they just won't be "Olympic" brand, but will hold just fine. Others will have other opinions.
If you do a search for rivets on this forum, you'll eventually find the sizes you need. I've found that 1/8"x1/4", 1/8 x 1/2, 3/16"x1/4", 3/16"x1/2", and a 3/16"x1/4" with a wide flange have covered everything I need.
Also, if you are using any of these on the exterior, you'll need to seal them with a polyurathene caulk - they leak.

Thanks for your reply Dryfly. Our goal is to use the rivet shaver on the exterior rivets so we can try to match the new rivets to the originals as best we can. I will not place my order this morning and do a little more research.
