Just a few hours from you on the dry side of the mountains. Let me know if you decide to take any parts out of the interior (appliances, cabinet hardware etc) you don't want to reuse, we're working on a 63 and maybe we can work out a deal!
Actually the "T" is a "T", not a "J". It means Twin Bed setup. The "J" for Jackson center didn't come along until a few years later. My '63 Ambassador also has the "T" for twin beds. A "D" would signal a double bed setup.

Regarding the "165", I do not believe that Airstream started at 001 each year in the early '60's. They just continued counting from one year to the next. We don't know what the number of the first '63 30' Saovereign was, but it likely was in the mid 100's. I'd actually bet it was possibly as high as 150 or higher because I think "163" was made early in the model year because of it's rare Jalousie window setup.

We bought a 2001, 19-foot Bambi Safari with a dent in one of the front panels. We thought it would be easy enough to fix by just pulling out the dent with a suction cup. That didn't work too well so we got a quote for replacement of the panel. $4,000! Yikes.

Now we have another scratch along the top (don't ask). I'm worried we'll never be able to afford to get it back to its original, beautiful self.

Better to live with it a while than to try and fix it the wrong way. You could cause more damage and make things worse. As long as it isn't leaking it won't hurt to wait.

Kathleenh, Know it would be expesive on mine to get done to perfection on the outside, so I might wait a bit before hiring someone. Who knows I might find the time to get it done myself.
