Missing Clearcoat - 2004 Safari

2004 Safari purchased new. Now has 75600 miles and is starting to show its age. This started as a blemish about the size of a quarter when we left home in March. 3500 miles later and it is now about 6"X 2". What to do? Have considered trying a can of clear lacquer from HD. Any one had a similar problem?
Thnx to all.

Have about the same size peel just below the curbside front clearance light.

Still haven't determined what started it, no surface damage, may have been contamination when the panel was coated.

Just smoothed edges, cleaned with mineral spirits and used Rust-o-leum brush clear, has kept it from spreading just over a year now.

I just got some KBS Diamond Clear to try, should work better than the Rust-o. Will test it on the filiform also.

So when is this..."old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

My 02 Safari has several places where the clearcoat is peeling. I have a can of the clearcoat spray from Jackson Center that I have not tried yet. So far I have been keeping the affected areas coated in a good automobile wax. I also apply Walbernize over the trailer a few times per year. I haven't seen any spread of the failing clearcoat since I bought the trailer and started my waxing schedule in Sept 2011.

I need to get brave and spray some of the AS clear coat spray on the peeled areas.
