Help !!! Need Ideas for a skin repair

I want to take off what i believe is the old tv antenna. but am left with a 3/4 inch hole.. the screw holes above and below that held the bracket I am gonna put rivets in. But what to do with the big hole..

I can put the bracket back on which you can see stuck in the radio antenna. this will cover the hole and may look better than a patch...

Any other ideas!!!!!!!!!???????

There is also a newer looking tv antenna on the roof. with a crank in the roof, this one will stay, but the cord runs down the front of the trailer... Think I will just cut it since I really don't think we will use it. Any other ideas for this....

Do you have access to the back side? This is the limiting factor as to the type of repair.

the hole goes all the way through so I have a hole a little bigger on the inside about 1" diameter to work with. for access..

If you could gain access to the backside, a doubler could be riveted to the inside, with a filler used to plug the hole. If it was riveted in with flush rivets the repair would be as unobtrusive as possible. This type of repair is called a dollar dime repair in the aviation world.

Fill it in

I would suggest cleaning up the area and then filling the holes with an olympic rivet. Then shave it down or snip it close. It will blend right in.

If you have larger holes, cut a piece of aluminum to a desired shape (round most likely) and rivet it on.

At the end of the day, these types of patches are common place and would blend right in.

HTH,

Doug

That looks more like a radio antenna but the repair is the same. I use the aluminum duct tape for a temporary repair until you decide the best way to fix it. A small square patch with sealant behind it riveted over the hole is going to be the easiest and the best patch. Use the Olympic rivets for the patch, regular pop rivets will leak thru the mandrel hole.

I used a piece of aluminum purchased from Lowe's Home Improvement as a patch. I cut a round circle slightly larger than the outside screw diameter of the CB antenna the PO put on my '77 Excella, drilled 3 holes to match the screw holes already there, put Sikaflex 221 on the back side of the patch, riveted them with Olympic rivets after dipping them in Sikaflex, drilled additional holes of equal spacing and then finished with the same dipped Olympic rivets around the circumference to make a nice repair. The inside round hole was taped with aluminum foil since it was hidden inside a closet.

Ok, I choose to go with the Flag pole holder, as my kids love flags and it looks ok.... It was a little bigger than I wanted but I painted it as it was white... I think it came out ok..... You can see the original hole on the first post...
