Greasing leaf springs

i'm restoring a Spartan manor axle and springs.
i'm following this blog Vintage Trailer Axle

the author recommends greasing in between the leaf springs.
i mentioned this elsewhere and was told greasing springs is dangerous and could cause them to snap and that some friction is necessary.

any thoughts on this? what do they do in the factory?
