Fun Little Emblem Project
I was installing a deadbolt and wanted to made a cover plate for around the opening. I had built a little CNC machine a few years back so I drew this up and cut it last night. The paint is a little wet yet but I think it might look pretty cool right next to the original nameplates. This was actually the test piece but it turned out pretty good so I just went with it. It was a piece of anodized aluminum so I had to remove the anodizing with oven cleaner. It took a shine but I think I might rough it up a bit to match the original logos I cleaned up and re-painted.

Thanks all!! I did another with a little adjustment in positioning and then a brushed finish vs the polished look. I'm not sure what will end up on my trailer. I I have to wait for things to thaw around here until I can work on mounting this up.
As for custom requests... You never know! Send me what you are thinking!

Thanks Sandy and also thanks for the welcome! It would be fun to stop and see your projects sometime. The weather was good yesterday so I was able to get a lot done on the trailer. Including finishing the deadbolt installation and putting everything back together.

That's awesome! Care to elaborate on how you 'built a CNC machine'? Because that sounds pretty cool too!

I'm Impressed if you can identify the trailer and origin from a close up picture of the emblems! It's our first Aurstream and has been a really fun ride so far! There are a lot more photos and stories on my blog if you are interested.
Stef the CNC is an open source project called DIYLILCNC. It's a pretty easy build and uses a dremel. I've made all sorts of custom projects with it. Tap handles for my homebrew, custom cheese followers for a cheese press to name plates on my trailer. Even to just drill accurate holes it has been a life saver. I've also made a plate to cover the old fresh water fill on my trailer and add a new marine water fill. It was so easy to have it carve the correct hole size and then add nice evenly spaces holes for rivets.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words!
Ryan

I would like to redo my emblems but hesitate to attempt removal as they appear to be glued? not rivotted. Any tips you can pass on? (1969 AirStream Land Yacht 23')
Thanks, Ray

The emblems may have studs on the back that attach through the skin. to get at them you may need to remove the inner skin.

On our '69 Tradewind the emblems are attached through the outer skin with nuts on the inside and yes to access them you would have to remove the inner skin

Definitely you'll have to remove the inner skin to access the nuts on the back. If you break off the stud that sticks through you'll be forced to attach with pop-rivets or something else that will alter the appearance.
