Exterior Refrigerator Vent Cover

Does anyone know of a source to purchase a replacement refrigerator vent cover for a 1965 A/S Overlander? I tried VTS and they are out of stock and an availability date uncertain at this time. My cover was in shreds and now totally missing. I did cover the opening with foil tape to keep the rain out. I am assuming I will be unable to use the unit on electric with the vent blocked. Thanks, Dom

You can use it while in the electric mode, but not on gas. It may not be as efficient because the heat needs to escape somewhere.

I would like to know the answer to this also. The one Bob linked to will work, but I would like to use the original smaller sized one that uses the same rivet holes. Mine is a Caravel. I have no idea if VTS will get another shipment of the 24" ones. If anybody knows if they will, or if there is another source let us know. I can wait as there is a home made version up there now, but it is more functional than pretty.

Airstream parts stocking dealers will have the metal replacement reefer vent cover.

For those that want the smaller one, there is an easy answer of how to make the longer one work.

First of all, plastic is plastic and plastic replacements will fail again and again.

And, the metal one is even cheaper.

All someone needs to do with the longer cover, is to cut it in half, overlap it to whatever dimension they want, and rivet it back together, with a small bead of sealer on the seam.

That's not a bad idea Andy. I might just do that. Thanks for the reply!
