Sooner or later, somebody will crank them out on a 3-D printer.... especially since they're so expensive.

I thought I had 5 extra amber, but could only find 3 and 2 red ones. I am selling my trailer, so I'll probably let them go with the buyer as backups. However, I did reach out to VTS for you as they always have something cooking in the background. Here's what I got back:

Thank you for contacting us about the tear drop marker lights. The company that made them for years broke the dye last year and opted not to retool, leaving trailer owners across North America without a source for replacements. We currently have reproductions as close to the originals as we can make them in production and hope to receive our first shipment in the next few months. We will be selling the entire set, including backing plate, gasket, lens, and LED bulb, in red and amber. I put your email address on the wait list so you will receive a notification when they are in stock. Please call or email if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you again for your email. We value your patronage!

Sincerely,
Polly Youngblood

Thumbs up

"I'm hell bent on keeping the stock look on the outside."

"Can they all be replaced with a similar size/style?
Period correct would be excusable I think."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A modern replacement may even turn out to be a more workable solution....

I ran into the same conundrum with our 63 Safari...don't let it stop you from enjoying the trailer.

After all most of the SOB users don't even realize....."I didn't know they were still making Airstreams."

But then again don't give up.....PM sent.

Bob

I finally found an option. A company is making them and will be available in 2-3 months.

How could this happen? Just not acceptable!
At least Steve and Polly at VTS are trying to get something going.
Craig, I like your find on making your own, the Alumilite site is fascinating to me. I love DIY stuff. Good hunting.

I know this doesn't help but…...

I think the teardrop lights are really really cool.

AND I applaud you for your efforts to keep the vintage style of the trailer. THUMBS UP AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF,

( I have nothing against customizing, but certain details like this, should be saved…IMHO )

I've decided to make a mold and then make my own light lenses. I need 5 red and 5 orange...ideally would also like 2 of each as spares. That would be $120 once vintage trailer supply gets theirs together. For $75 I can make them myself.

I ordered the mold making materials and urethane along with red and orange dye today. I will keep everyone posted and start a new thread on "How to make light lenses".

Called VTS to see if they could tell me when the vintage copies would be "arriving" . . . still no idea. And when I mentioned that I only need new lenses they said, "oh we're not going to sell lenses only, you'll have to buy the whole assembly". Seems wrong headed.

I've noticed that the lights never went up for sale at VTS. They told me the same on lenses only a long time ago.

Very happy I made my own lenses.
