Citristrip

I decided to take the plunge and strip and polish my Safari. After doing online research, I decided that Citristrip was wanted I wanted to use. One video that I saw said to apply in 18" sections. So...I painted it on, waited about 30 minutes and washed it off. The clear coat came (mostly) off that section with a garden spray hose! Yay! So, on to the adjoining section. It was wet from the prior rinse and did NOT come off. I had read somewhere that that would happen. What is the harm in doing larger sections, say, half a side one time, half the other side? It's been raining ever since, so I'm at it again tomorrow. Thoughts? The Citristrip bottle says to leave on from 30 minutes to 24 hours. Why work in smaller sections?

You can work in larger sections. Remember the directions are for furniture, cabinets or wall. What will leaving on a little longer do to aluminum-nothing. You may end having todo a little hand scrubbing with a wet sponge.

I've had good luck with citristrip BUT I use it slightly differently than the directions.
I slather it on with a paint brush, wait :15 or so then I scrub it with a soft bristle car wash brush. I add more fresh stripper and repeat as often as needed until the scrubbing turns into goo.

Then I wash it off.

So far it's worked on my '77, my '91 and my '63 with great results.

In my experience (removing paint from inner skins), the only danger in working in larger sections is leaving it on so long that it dries out. In this case you pretty much have to start over on the dry sections.
