buck or pop rivet

i'm renovating a '72 ambassador and I am ready to put trim and awning track on. When I did the demo the trim was pop riveted on. Is there a reason pop rivets were used? Can I use buck rivets? or will that deform the trim pieces and awning track

Pull type rivets (pop or Olympic) are used in place of bucked rivets when access to the back of the rivet is not available. If you can get to the rear of the rivet to buck it, buck rivets are preferred. They are stronger and cheaper, but require a second person to install.

Definitely buck the awning rail on. The trim pieces don't matter so much (non structural, and non load bearing), but I would make every effort to seal the pop rivets as I install them.

buck rivet it is then. I guess maybe the trim was put on after they finished the interior?

We used pop rivets on our trim that have a center fill piece to seal them. They are called "closed end pop rivets". If you use regular pop rivets on trim, it just lets water under your skin where you don't want it.
