Arvika Bike Rack Question
Can't find a thread on these, so hopefully this is in the right place. We have this rack, very happy with it and promote it all the time. It is installed on our 19' Bambi behind the propane tanks. The key here is we don't have a WD system so there was "lots" of room to install on the A-frame. We are now looking at a larger unit that DOES have a WD system. I'm just seeking validation from anyone who has this rack installed that it fits with a WD system. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses, and Rich, for the visual. Happy to know that I wouldn't need to look at another means of bike transport.

Fits with an Equalizer set up on my Classic 25fb. I mount the Arvika behind the L brackets.

How much weight will the Arvika bike rack carry safely? We have two "geezer bikes", with electric assist, and they exceed the weight limit of our Fiamma...

I can not find that information on their web site or instruction sheet provided. They only specify number of bikes the different racks can carry. I would recommend getting the optional support bar if weight is an issue. It also greatly reduces noticeable movement and vibration.
I bought mine from Racksforcars.com in Edmonton. They are the English speaking distributor. They have very good customer service and were very helpful with questions that I had.

Can't tell you weights, but we carry 2 bikes. Alternately, depending on our destination, either 2 Specialized road bikes, or 2 Trek mountain bikes. They are lighter than my Honda generator, so guessing about 40 lbs each. We have the additional support bar as well.

I thought I read somewhere, sometime that there was a 100# weight limit. And that's with the front support leg. Mine is a 3 place rack and the 3rd leg came with it.

My Arvika is mounted on the rear bumper, a CanAm refit. Haven't noticed any extra weight on the tail of the trailer. Bikes are always in great shape when we get to wwhere we're going.

We've had our Arvika for 2 years mounted with a Reese StraitLine hitch with dual cam sway control. No issues at all. We carry 2 bikes, my aluminum mountain bike and my wife's cruiser using the optional stabilizer bracket. Very stable mount, and I like being able to see the bikes when underway!

Thanks for all the information-- I had been quite frustrated by the Arvika website, which is probably meant for dealers and not users so much. CanAm used to advertise a bike rack-- I wonder if this is the same one.
I hadn't thought to compare the weight of the bikes to a generator, which we don't have. I now have paths to explore!

Arvika also makes a utility rack that replaces the bike rack. I have seen photos of it with a generator in place, it appeared to be about a 3500 or so.

How does this setup not interfere with the truck when turning or backing.
I would be more inclined to fabricate a receiver hitch for the rear of the Airstream. Has anyone seen this done?

Not a good idea. Discussed here many times. The rack is height adjustable and clears the top of PU rails. It's really not a problem. If you're backing that sharply, you're doing it wrong anyway.

Here is what I bought directly from Arvika.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f516...ml#post1339473
After a couple of years use I decided to use a Velcro strap around one brake lever of each bike. This prevents the bike from rocking in the tire channel which seems to loosen the Arvika supplied straps. I also use Velcro straps for the bike wheels. No rocking of the bikes now.

Has anyone used the Stromberg Carlson bunk model on an Airstream?
It's limited to 100 lbs but would give the option of using my current bike rack(a 2 bike Yakima).

I tried to use one ordered from Amazon. The rack was flush against the gas cover and could not be raised any higher. No way to open the cover to turn gas on/off or check valve position with out removing the top section of the rack. Returned.
The Arvika Airstream model addresses these shortcomings.
