Aluminum Covers to Exterior Outlets

My 1987 Excella has a couple of these aluminum covers - one for the 100-volt exterior outlets and another, on the street side, for a telephone jack. These covers were very stiff to open. So I sprayed some Corrosion X on one of them, and now it will only stay partly open. It springs open when I try to shut it. How do I go about fixing this?
