Wow, I’m the first to vote yes! I must add the caveat that I would first have to posses extreme amounts of disposable income and the build be top notch and worth every penny. If I had the significant means to purchase a brand new 80-90k Airstream I may seriously consider a vintage trailer built to my exact needs. I'm guessing that expert craftsmen could easily exceed the factory with the freedom to spare no expense.

And while my dream trailer is being built I'll continue to sleep on uncovered foam while my boys sleep on the floor

Hi Gabe and Welcome to the forums. Restorations...... its part of the fun of being an Airstreamer. There's no time limit and you can work at your own pace. Fix it up as much as needed for camping and work on the rest when you have time. May take a little longer but Im sure you will find out that it will be cheaper and you will love it even more when it finally gets done.. but then again, does it ever Really get done??

If you do it little by little it doesn't seem all that much. I'd hate to add up what we've spent on our baby. I know it's nowhere near 93K, but it's worth that to us. We love our Argosy and cannot imagine selling it at any price now.

I don't think I could justify paying $93K, but I see how it's possible. If a rig was in real sad shape and needed a new frame, suspension, floor, and some end segments, the costs could add up quickly before you even got to the interior living spaces. Add all new appliances and high end materials for the interior, not to mention labor, the costs could easily get that high. I guess it's a matter of what you want and are willing to spend.

On the theory that 2 trailers are better than 1, my wife and I are in the process of buying a 1972 20' Argosy to go along with our 2007 Base Camp. The Argosy looks like it's in real nice shape, but it will need an exterior paint job, and I'm sure we'll be replacing carpet and fabric inside. No way will the tab approach $93K!

I visited Hoffman Architecture in Santa Barbara last week. Wally Hoffman and son have done some pretty nice restorations/conversions over the last two years. Check them out at Airstreams Portfolio .

I'd like to know more about how the restorers' address the health of the trailer's underpinnings......floors, frame and axels.
