Just bought a 1983 34' that had its propane tanks stolen. RV dealer replaced them with white 20 lb steel tanks (Ughhh!!!). Just so happens I have a spare pair of 40 lb aluminum tanks, but do not have the propane tank cover.
Does anyone know where one might be found? So far Google has failed me.

I thought ODM RV (odmrv.com) had them, but right now I can't find them. If you do find them, be prepared for sticker shock, though - they were way more expensive than I expected. After seeing the price you might want to polish your tanks instead like Smokedog suggested.
They cost over $600 from an Airstream dealer. Mine got blown away in a tornado. I may take a stab at building one at some point but the polished tank idea is not a bad one. I had removed mine to replace the cracked plastic lid and left it out in the yard. A tornado hit and took it away. The trailer survived with a few dings. These things are hard to find used. Good luck with it. Post a wanted add in the classifieds here. If you find more than one let me know.
Believe it or not my tanks were spray painted silver. Used paint remover, got down to the original finish and used polish. Don't remember what it was I'm thinking a wheel type polish. I had to have a nice dent/gash taken out of the street side.
