1957 fan

can anyone help me figure out if it is possible to attach an awning to a 1957 fan camper myself, without having to take it to a trailer place and paying big money. it appears this trailer at one time had some type of awning that had to be attached by snaps because there is still the metal strip at the top of the trailer with the some of the snaps still there and i have an (aftermarket) thule awning that has to be attached from the top of the camper but not sure exactly how to go about it the right way! i have plenty of ideas from people that are not sure how to either but they are thinking that their "idea" would surely work. thanks for any help
