Question Quality Improvements for '06, '07 Safari ??

Greetings, We're new to the Airstream Forums and are planning our 1st Airstream purchase for travel next year. We've pretty well narrowed it down to a 25' Safari w/ twins and fold-out couch. It would appear, from perusing these forums, that overall delivery quality of all Airsream models has been a little hit and miss recently. Seems that Airstream expects their dealers, under the guise of the PDI, to fix whatever's broken or not put together correctly in the first place. All this is done under warranty, so there's no cost to the customer. It is, however, a little disconcerting and a time consuming pain to have to deal with this type of thing on a brand new coach.

My question is whether initial quality, and overall quality, is improving on the '06 & '07 units. We are considering ordering an '07 and there would be further incentive to do that if some of the well documented quality issues are being dealt with- at the factory level. Otherwise, maybe we should spend the winter locating a few year old unit at a significant discount over a new one and plan on spending some $$ on it to get it up to speed.

What do you folks think? Any model years to stay away from?

From bitter experience, I would avoid 2002-2003 Safari/International.CCD model years. That was when the laminate interiors were brand new and there were loads of teething problems.

Classics seem to get a bit more build attention and they have a longer history..

Use the search button and you can see the trends for yourself.

In the search field, enter the year and then enter model year quality

There are QC threads with pages and pages of info for model years:

2004
2005
2006
2007
