It’s a Red Flag Warning this weekend in Southern California, just as it was last week when we returned to the Cuyamaca Mountains near Julian, CA.
Although we could not enjoy a campfire due to the high risk of fires, we did enjoy the full moon brilliantly lighting up our campsite as we continued to celebrate the fall harvest season.
Details and more images of the Safari under moonlight are at:
Thanks, jd... we also like this elephant. This handcrafted, silver-metallic elephant was a present from Emma Luhr, while camping at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park last December.
Besides complementing our Safari décor, it has additional feng shui significance, symbolizing power, strength, wisdom and longevity.
Those Luhrs are a real class act. I knew there was something extra-cool about it (Psst! I'd sure like to participate, next time they're in our area...)
A good second purpose: I guessed it had something to do with fen shui.
Thanks for the links. More good stuff, as usual.
I totally dig your trailer!
Bill: I liked and used your idea about the lock on the battery box. I was also worried about the propane tanks and the possibility of those growing feet when we had to leave our AS by itself. Albeit we would be out a lot more cash if somebody took the batteries, it seemed to me that the propane tanks are one, easier to take (quickly) and two, more universal. I don't know if anybody else has done this but I drilled a 5/16" hole in the large wingnut and the crossmember on the gas tank cover and then put a regular paddlelock on. Very simple and it doesn't show. I took a couple snapshots of it, I hope that they transfer.
Last week we enjoyed desert camping below Ghost Mountain under the full moon. But before I post the story with more interesting moonlight photos, I want to share information about our most important and newly added safety measure:
Our return to the Ghost Mountain area in Anza-Borrego desert comes at an auspicious time. Marshal South's home site, "Yaquitepec", along with the Wally Byam/Marshal South connection, is featured in the Fall 2008 Airstream Life magazine article, "Marshal South & Wally Byam - Parallel Roads, Different Destinations", pages 36 - 39.
Also, John McDonald's The Ghost Mountain Experiment will be featured at the Borrego Springs Performing Arts Center this Saturday, November 29, at 7:30 p.m. and he will lead a hike the following morning at 9 a.m. up Ghost Mountain to visit the home site of Marshal South.
Read the full story of our return to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, along with nighttime full moon and star photography, tips and ideas, Thanksgiving festivities, music and much more in my latest article:
After a deliciously spicy dinner, while photographing under a brilliant full moon, I saw a flashing light streaking across Ghost Mountain. There had been reports of mysterious, moving flashing lights over the area.
Could this be a UFO or one of the Ghost Lights of Anza-Borrego or a sighting of 2air’?
Even the stars began to look different, along with Larry (who now looked like an astronaut while cooking), and our Pug seemed to have two, non-matching heads).
As you may recall from my last posting, "Ground Control to Major Bill...", I was having difficulty with our Airstream and had been frantically searching Airforums for a solution. Finally, after pushing the advance search engine into high gear, I found the solution: My initial problem occurred because I had failed to properly recalibrate the flux capacitor for vertical travel.
Gas prices have hit a five year low and the sun is shining (at least here in the Southwest), so we are reactivating the mother ship, recalibrating the flux capacitor, and preparing to join others in the desert to celebrate the New Year.
