On or about the third day of our trip last October, we too gave up on the Midnight Sun bedspread. It ended up in a storage box in the bed of the pickup for the rest of the 4,000 mile trip, and will be in the next Airstream flea market for sale. We're not a clever as you guys.

Airstream and Earth Day

Airstream trailers were designed to work with the natural elements rather than against them from the beginning.

In recognition of the upcoming Earth Day, I posted an article in my History Safari Express column covering a brief history of the beginnings of Airstream and how it continues to be environmentally friendly.

See why Every Day is Earth Day with an Airstream at Airstream Life Online Community.

California Mountain Camping

Thanks, Randy (SilverCabin), and Jim (Jimandrod) for your comments.

Well, we just returned to a heat wave in San Diego…

But it was wonderfully cool in our mountains just a few days earlier…

When we returned to our favorite mountain campsite on Earth Day.

Larry made Winter Melon Soup, as turkeys romped nearby.

Could this be the beginning of the end?

We all look forward to our Airstreaming travels, but sometimes overlook pet safety.

See why we always place our dogs in carriers on the folded back seats of our truck and strapped to the inside of its crew cab compartment.

“Traveling and Pet Safety” article has just been posted in my column, History Safari Express on the Airstream Life Online Community web page.

Cheers!

Goin' down the shore

Our mountains are heating up, so it’s off to our favorite non-hook-up beach camping site to enjoy the cool ocean breezes, sounds of the waves, wildlife, Spring rolls, moonlight, and much more.

See the details in my latest article, “Down the shore”…

On the Airstream Life Online Community web site.

More than just a wash & wax job this time!

Returning home from the shore means it’s time to hose off the salt deposits from the trailer. It’s also time for the trailer’s annual big wash and wax job. This time, though, we knew it would entail more.

For over a year now, we’ve been following an eye-opening thread here on the forums, “Corrosion problems with new Airstreams”.

When SilverCabin (who also has the 2007 23’ Safari SE) discovered his filiform corrosion, we began a vigil, watching for the emergence of our filiform.

And emerge it did. See the full story along with additional photos and details on how we are dealing with this issue in my latest story, “Filiform corrosion”, in my column, History Safari Express, on the Airstream Life Online Community web site.

We maintain the "vigil" as well, and so far we have not found any filiform on our 06 Bambi....though our arid climate is no doubt working much in our favor...thanks for the information, as always... We gotta do the "big wax" soon, too...though we usually wash it before each trip....nobody like to travel with a dirty, dusty, buggy AS, right?!

SilverGate - Greetings from Seattle. Long time to check-in! Of course, love the recent pictures and reports of your adventures! And excited to see your latest blog entries - I have alot of reading to get caught up on!

We are getting excited - two camping trips in June as the school year comes to an end and the weather starts (hopefully) warming up. We have had our coldest June in 60 years in the Pacific Northwest so we are really ready for summer!

Foiled has been happily stored away in a covered with electric storage place. Of course, I have been doing some shopping and have recently bought a generator, espresso machine, cordless blender, vintage pink flamingo accessories, custom sheets and mattress pad, new pillows . . . I am afraid I am moving rapidly to "glamping" but what the heck!

We wanted to let you know we bought the sheets from AB Lifestyles Homestore from a tip on this forum amd they have been great to deal with!

I wanted to say that as soon as we make a Southern California trip I sure hope we can find you at either your beach or desert spots - those places look great!!

Keep up the correspondence and information!

When are you coming to our beautiful Pacific Northwest?

Kathy

Thanks, Kathy, for your greetings from Seattle. Your Pacific Northwest is indeed beautiful, but with diesel fuel now at $5.35/gal., and rising, we will be staying in Southern California for quite some time!

Revisiting our favorite parks still gives us much joy as we continue to find new aspects to enjoy.

We just returned from our favorite mountain camping park, William Heise County Park, near the one-time gold rush town of Julian, CA.

Inspired by Rich Luhr’s “Tent Economics” June 9, Tour of America post, we took along our 20 year old REI tent. I also took a tour of Julian’s Eagle-High Peak Gold Mine.

See the full story and additional photos in my article, “Eureka! Gold found in Julian!”, in my column, History Safari Express, on the Airstream Life Online Community web site.

(I tried to upload photos, but the upload failed for some reason... will try again later.)

O.K., let's see if the photo upload is successful this time...

Yes, they uploaded.

Twenty years after the the big gold rush north of here, Julian had its own gold rush. Read more of our colorful local history and take a photo trip into the Eagle-High Peak Mine in my article, "Eureka! Gold found in Julian!".

(BTW, click on the last word, "music", in the story to hear one exciting bit of music from California Gold.)

Cheers,

Thanks, Andy R, for the upgrade for photo attachments!

I just found your thread today and really have enjoyed reading the entire 31 (thus far) pages of your first year and a half of ownership of your Safari. We certainly love ours. Thanks for sharing your experiences and the beautiful photos. I especially love the night shot at the beach!

Thanks again for putting the camping bug back in me. We are going for a long weekend this weekend and then for a week for the July 4th holiday. Can't wait now.
