Generator installed in Airstream

I would like to know if anyone has ever installed a Onan Generator or like in thier Airstream. I have been using the twin Honda 2000's but don't like moving around and filling with gas. Just seems like a much better idea to have one installed in the side of the Airstream like a motor home. Any ideas or links would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken.

No but I'm gonna!

A gennie built into the trailer seems the most logical thing in the world.

I talked to Uwe who owns area 63 and in my trailer he says he can easily plant a propane powered gennie under the bed. That would put it in the center of the trailer for balance. I'd need to carry a propane tank in the bed of the truck.

He warned me it might be too loud for nighttime use but here in Ca. with our low humidity and cooler nights it should not be a problem.

Paul Fancy had a beautiful installation he showed at the Lancing International five years ago. The polished aluminum loverd cover provided ventilation while having a nice appearence. I am not sure which model he used. I think he used propane.

My 28 FC has a bay in the belly forward of the rear axle where the original condensor was for the engine driven coach air. I originally put the 4.0 Quietpac from Generac in there from my old coach. Now I have a noisy Honda 6010. I'd go back to Generac if I could fit the 5.5-6.0 in it.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

I have often thought about this same issue. It would sure be nice to have a propane powered 5000 watt quiet genset installed in Lucy. I guess that I would be willing to give up the outside storage shed or the oven if I could accomplish this.

If you are able to pull this off, we would love to hear about it.

This is something that Airstream really need to consider.

Brian

I've got a 76 Overlander with a microlite installed just aft the axles on the roadside. It uses a jerry can on the rear bumper for fuel and its battery is in the rear compartment. It seems to work well and the trailer handles OK but I'd like to create a compartment over the wheel well for a gas tank and battery. See the photo gallery.

I need to pull the microlite to get its insulation batting tied down so it doesn't interfere with airflow. The wiring between the batteries, inverter, solar charge controller, and whatnot also needs a bit of help. The rig is a well used and full timer customized so it has a lot of interesting ideas to examine, including the genset.

Original install

I have seen a mid 80's excella that had a factory Kohler. They installed it under one side of the dinette, surprisingly I think it was gas powered. Someone here may know what years they had this??

Nice.
