Almost done putting in the 100+ elevator bolts in the floor!!
I need some help. I have no information or photos of the rear floor at the service center. I need to know how that section goes together. It looks a lot different than my 1967. Any photos and information would help greatly.

Thank you

Hi,

I scanned a pic of the Service Center from the Owner's Manual.
In 68 the battery is in the rear, which I feel adds too much weight.

Keep up the great work....

Greg,
That is a better image than my copy of the manual! Thank you.

I need to get a photo looking down into the service center. I need to see what the floor looks like in there. My trailer had no wood back there when I purchased it.

I am moving the battery to the front up under the gaucho. I want to remove as much weight from the back as possible.

Make sure the battery is vented to the outside. Floor looks great.

Pat,
Do you remember how it was bolted together under the drain pipe that runs across, under the door?

Floor drawing

Not much of mine was left at the very back. The piece of steel under the bottom had totally rusted apart on the right side. I (had) welded a new piece of steel in its exact same place however it was a little to the front. I drew an expanded drawing of what I did. Not shown is a rubber gasket from a garage door I put in there to help with water coming down the back.

Hope this helps,
Pat

Under floor photo

Hi Till,

This shows the replaced steel brace with elevator bolts coming through from floor above. A thin original strip of aluminum is over that which I buck riveted a new aluminum hinge to.

PIANO HINGES from Aircraft Spruce

Top of the steel has POR-15 on it and the bottom will be POR'd later.

Over the aluminum strip is a garage door gasket which compressed nicely.

I made up all the hinge stuff before bolting the floor down.

Enjoy,
Pat

Big progress over the past couple of days!!!
Thanks to Pat the back end is all buttoned up.
Riveted the wheel wells to the skin. Wow did that make a big difference in the feel of the trailer! finally started to put the interior skin back in!!! Yea!!!!
I have to say a pneumatic rivet gun is the way to go with the interior.

The saga continues.....
Big step today. The rear end-cap was changed out. Yea!!!
Went from yellow to turquoise. I would not recommend this for the faint of heart. This was an interesting job in part because I changed a 1968 Ohio built Overlander yellow end-cap for a 1967 California built Ambassador turquoise one. All of this with the ceiling still in.

Took about 3 hours. BTW that is my 15 year old son with me. I need to put a brick on his head! He just keeps growing....

Been a little while since my last up date. I have suffered a set back at this point. Last weekend while engaged in my other hobby I was injured. Friday the 15th I received 11 stitches in my left thumb. Not good enough though, Saturday the 16th I managed to get my right hand mashed pretty bad. Luckily no broken bones, but it felt like it.....
Now with the cold damp weather, I am not sure how much progress will happen on the outside.
I plan on removing and cleaning/repairing the interior parts from my '67 to prep for assembly work over the winter/spring.

Hey now!

Tedd, That's not right! Changing out parts from one to the other trailer is one thing but trying to get new hands by cutting and squishing is very much another! Hope you get healed up soon and get back to the trailer updating. I don't think anyone will find fault with all the work you've done so far. Great job getting the wiring in and going camping. It will be great when the interior from the '67 gets into an updated shell even if it is a '68. Just think how nice it will be once all that work is completed and you can camp in real comfort with a trailer you know inside and out has been so carefully restored and updated. Keep us all up to date on all you are doing with lots of pictures and all the how to's! Carol and I hope to see the finished product real soon. Maybe when yours is done I can finally get mine on the road too! Happy Trails, Ed

Well with the winter weather, I have turned to planning for the spring work. I have found that I can not use the gaucho that I made for the '67. The water tank on a 1968 is lower and wider.
Is there anyone with photos of a gaucho for a 1968 that show it's construction?
