Need help with awning

Hi there,

I bought an A&E awning and I need pics to see how it was originally installed on the 68 overlander. Can some of you with awnings installed please send me some pics so I know how it is supposed to be attached to the airstream?
Thanks
Kevin

Have a look at the following thread:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f442...mpt-80013.html

It is about the installation of an A&E awning on my '73 GT. I did some modifications to the awning to make it work, specifically, shortening the arms so that the lower mounts hit the side higher up, rather than at the belt line. The original design was for the lower mounts to attach right at the belt line using long lag bolts to go through the skin and the C or U cannel at the bottom of the wall. My problem was that on the rear mount, the mount landed right in the middle of the battery compartment door, so needed to be raised up. The upper mounts will straddle or sit near the ends of the awning rail, depending on the length of the awning rail relative to the length of the awning tube. It is a bit of an iterative process to get the placement just right. If you need more detailed pics, let me know what you want to see.

Great project, but what I need is to see how the mounting brackets work and interface with the body of the airstream. Any help much appreciated.

Attached are closeup photos of the lower bracket connection, and the left and right upper brackets. The "standard way of connecting these usuallyinvolves lag or sheet metal screws, hopefully into a rib or C-channel. Since I had the inner skins out, I went ahead and made backing plates with threaded inserts to provide more meat for the machine screws to attach to.

Ok, this is great. Now I need to look for the fixing brackets.
I think I'm going to be doing some fabrication.
If you could show me how the secondary arms work, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for your help.

That document does as good a job as I could in describing the function of the awning. The only thing I would add is that my awning main, outer arms have kind of a little bracket that goes all the way around it with a pin through it to keep all of the arms nested together while traveling. Naturally this needs to be released before deploying the awning.
