Are you sure its not mold? Hee hee, sorry couldn't resist. Have no idea, perhaps some of the other members have the necessary experience?

I got out of the "dog house" by removing some of my greasy finger prints by starting out with a weak solution of Oxyclean powder and warm water.

Used a small fingernail brush dipped in the solution scrubbed gently and vacuum dry. Wouldn't want to do the whole inside though.

Can you see it....

I think it is like ozite carpet. Others have posted that it is glued over plain aluminum inner skin. If the aluminum and carpet gets wet I think some aluminum oxide bleeds through the carpet to the surface and shows as dark grey stains. Don't know if there is a good solution for getting the stains out. I have some in my trailer and have not tried to remove them for fear of making it worse.
At present I am contemplating replacing the carpet with wood panelling but am not that ambitious at the present.

Surely is it best to avoid having to do so in the first place.

But when this preventinon idea has failed for me, I have first used carpet spot cleaner (sparingly) and for larger areas (??!!) used the "wand" attachment on my Hoover carpet cleaner. It does a pretty nice job. Also good for gaucho, if yours is fabric covered.
