Want to paint walls in new-to-us 1991 34' Limited

We have already torn out most of the furniture in the front half of the trailer and are trying to figure out the best way to paint the interior walls and cabinets. The interior skins appear to be aluminum with some vinyl applique or something on them with a bit of texture. Below is a list of questions:

1) What are the walls made of? The end cap appears to be ABS plastic of some sort.

2) Can they be painted easily? And what kind of paint & prep is needed?

3) What is a good way to fill in screw holes in the walls? There are a fair number of small screw holes from items we have removed and do not plan to replace such as the Venetian blind mounts and some cabinetry that will not go back in the shell during the renovation.

4) Painting cabinets? Prep is obviously key. We are thinking we will paint all of the solid oak by cleaning with TSP multiple times, sanding, primer two coats and then some kind of top-coat. What is a good top coat? Benjamin More Advance?

5) Cabinet hinges -- are there direct replacements available that are not brass colored? Is there an easy way to change the color of the existing hinges?

Thanks

Here is a link to one of many good threads on interior paint process from those who have done it:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f39/...or-117186.html

In answer to your Qs:
1. Fiberglass
2. Yes, see above. An alternative is to use Zolotone, which is like a plastic coating that has the texture similar to linen. Search the forum if you are interested in this option.
3. Since you are painting over them, you can use caulk, or simply add a pop rivet there.
4. See linked thread
5. Easiest option would be to remove the hinges you don't like, fill in the screw holes, paint and install hinge style you like. You may also wish to take the opportunity to add cabinet latches/pulls that further secure your cabinet doors during travel and match the hinge style.

Anyone tried spraying automotive paint on the interior walls? Single stage or two stage paint?

I have done some amateur automotive painting so know the process. Would certainly need a ventilation and fresh air respirator setup but have an HVLP gun and compressor that can handle it. Plastic car parts like bumpers get a good prep and adhesion promoter then base and clear.

Thoughts?

Our AS is a similar vintage and had all the same colors/materials. We have not painted our endcaps but intend to do so. Likely will prime with Bullseye and paint with a standard Benjamin Moore interior paint. We were going to paint our cabinets with Rustoleum Cabinet Renovations (have used it before), but liked the way they looked with new flooring and cabinet hardware, so decided against it. The cabinet pulls were from Pottery Barn, but hinges are standard Home Depot bronze finish, that were direct replacement for the original brass finish hinges.
