Question Vista View Shade Replacemnt

Has anyone replaced the sliding shades on the vista view windows? Mine are cracked and brittle!! Does the paneling around the windows need to come off to access replacing the shade? What material is the paneling made from in a 1971 31' International? Please adivse with any suggestions before I start drilling out the rivets.

Thanks, John

Cool Vista view

John
I am looking at the service manual for my 73 31'. It says you can take the shade out by removing the rivets out to either side far enough back to allow you to pull the panel down fto pull the shade out without damaging the panels . This should allow you to pull out the shade without removing the frame. Good luck

One thing you will see, though, is once the panels are down far enough to expose the window frame, is the frame is screwed together on the top. On my '68 Overlander, there are (were) three screws per side on the top rail, and I had to remove the top rail before the shade could be removed. I replaced the shade with a thin piece of pvc plastic and a glued-on finger pull. One side's done, now I've got to do the other!
