Upholstery - cushion covers wash or dry clean?

Wondering if people have tried washing their cushion covers or would I be better off dry cleaning?

I think the cushions need to be dry cleaned. But do you remove the cushion cover or can you dry clean with the cushion covers on the cushions?

We ended up removing ours and having them dry cleaned. They came out great! We discovered that the foam inside was wrapped in plastic. This aided in the difficult job of putting them back on as it provided a slippery surface. We haven’t done the main seat cushions on the couch as the bottom is a different material - vinyl? We took a picture and will check with dry cleaners.
