Ultraleather source
Looking for recommendations on a source for Ultraleather. We have an upholsterer just need to purchase the material.
If anyone has an alternative fabric they have used on a couch, those recommendations would also be welcomed.
Thanks,
John

I was pricing a Flexsteel and wanted some extra fabric to redo the arms from the oem sofa sleeper. The Flexsteel priced out at about 2 grand. Extra ultra leather $92 a half yard. I hope there is a much cheaper source out there somewhere. BYW decided on a futon with storage drawers and a memory foam mattress for a third of the price. Still want to redo the arms so I will be watching this thread.

Lumatic, thanks, yeah the stuff is expensive.
I have found lots of sources, hoping to get recommendations from those of you who have purchased.

Try totofabrics.com
I have used this source for many reupholstery jobs and recently used Ultraleather as the replacement for the mouse fur on my walls.
This outlet carries a variety of fabrics at ~75% off MSRP. They are discounting their stock 50% through year-end. You are limited to whatever colors they have on hand.

I ordered 6 yards from Derby Fabrics. It's all the same get the best price. Make sure whoever you get to do the sewing knows what they are doing. It isn't easy to work with.

If you wanted to shorten an ultraleather cushion to half its length can an upholster rework the existing ultraleather to a shorter cushion. I may have this done and it would be nice not to order new material to create a new shorter cushion.

Kelvin, the answer is, "it depends on how the original cover was constructed." It most cases it is doable with care.

Take a look at Rave. It is called a synthetic leather. I had a vehicle reupholstered in it 10 years ago. It now shows no wear and tear. It looks and feels like leather without the wrinkles leather gets over time.

So in your opinion this is better than leather from a wear standpoint.. how about comfort wise. I was chatting with a guy on the ford truck forum about getting his super duty truck interior redone in mexico using a material that was like leather but not leather.. it was some kind of vinyl he though. this might be the same sort of material..
ps he said the whole truck interior (crew cab) was done for appx 300 buck,, this was about 3 yrs ago. he live in las cruces and goes down below el paso to get it done.

Rave doesn't wrinkle like leather. It looks like leather. It feels like leather. I suppose it is just as comfortable.... IMO, leather looks like crap after a year or two. I don't find it attractive when the drivers seat shows heavy wear while the rest looks near new.
I paid $450 to have 2 buckets and a backseat done 10 years ago.
Probably the toughest synthetic is MB Tex. It is used in Mercedes Benz autos. Some people call it taxi cab leather. I have a 1987 300e with it. The seats still look like new. I mean zero wear and certainly no tear. I always look in older MB's to see the upholstery. Most with MB Tex still look great.

Try eBay. There are several lists for 10 yard lots of UltraLeather at below $20/yd, plus many other synthetics. Not a full choice of colors, but if you can find what you want, who cares. See, eg.,
